- Double Yellow Headed Amazon named Oscar.
Congo African Grey named Turbo...RIP
Oscar is showing his true colors! (but I am sure that this 30yr old is still hiding a lot from us!) lol He has only been here for 4 weeks but he is really coming out of his shell and made some big changes!
First - I finally got him to eat some veggies! Granted, I had to hid them (carrots/corn/beans) in his mashed potatoes...but he did eat them!! baby steps right?? LOL He also loved some mashed up mandarin orange pulp. I was making homemade jam...he wouldn't eat a piece of the orange but did enjoy the mashed pulpy stuff. He will crawl over to you if he sees you eating anything that resembles tortillas, crackers, bread, pizza - major carb head! lol
He is now calling out in the morning and evening...and afternoon...and anytime we leave the room. I put him in his cage so I could pick up the kids from a school function tonight and my sister (who was sleeping) had to let him out because he was soooo loud and she wasn't sure 'what' was wrong with him. Oh my! Temper Tantrum?
He is now also talking/vocalizing much more - and today was a WOW! kind of day!! lol He started off this morning not only calling out but spitting out phrases and snippets of sentences!! Couldn't figure out what all he was saying/trying to say but he was on a roll!! It continued into the afternoon...and evening. lol What a hoot!! He said his own name again - - haven't heard him say that since the first night he came here and later today, twice, he meowed like a cat..that was a new one! Two nights ago he started barking and within seconds my sister was at the door the dogs started barking - - I wonder if Oscar heard her FIRST and knew the dogs were about to sound the call!! ??? Might have a smarty pants on our hands! lol
Yesterday I added more lighting and a full spectrum light to the room - the corner was kind of shadowy and dim so I switched up all of the lighting in the room a bit to make it much brighter. Perhaps that was part of the reasoning for the excitable day today?? He can SEE!! LOL
Oscar has really taken a liking to my 11yr old nephew. I am thinking that he will be the one that he bonds with...which is what I wanted. I have had a bonding experience with a CAG in my past...now its his turn to see what the hype is all about! He has taken responsibility in cleaning out the cage, feeding/watering bathing and treats. Oscar gets a bit more excited when Santino comes into the room and talks to him. He belts out that he wants a craaaaakerrr! He says hi and hello and whats up? to him without hesitation. Santino is very animated when he talks to Oscar and can hit the pitch of Oscars speaking voice right on point - I wonder if that is part of it also? Who knows? Part of me will be sad..but they will make an awesome pair!!
My nephew has been able to hold him once, with my help. I am having a hard time getting Oscar 'away' from his cage. As soon as he gets on my arm and I start to move, he wants to fly back to his cage. We will keep working on it.
I ordered more toys and slooowly he is starting to show some interest. He is still ever so gentle with his toys, he doesn't shred or attack any of them. He nibbles gently on them and handles the foottoys with love - but - - give him a piece of paper and he goes crazy shredding it into a million pieces of confetti! Silly boy! It looks like it snowed in my living room!!
Oscar decided this week that he does indeed loooove his showers! He had his head bowed down, wings out, strutting around, coming towards the water spray...he was so excited! He looks pretty pathetic during bath time but later his feathers were tight and shiny and he looked pretty darn handsome!!
I love this bird!!
