charlie my orange winged amazon
hi i bought my parrot on friday from my local pet shop they got her from a man who didnt want her for whatever reason shes approx 2 years old and called charlie my worry is she doesnt do anything no noise no playing no flying nothing she just sits there she eats well and lets me stroke her she sits on top of her cage but doesnt attempt to fly she shows no interest in the toys we have bought her and just wondered if anyone hd any advice for me to try. thanks

Okay first off give her some time to get used to you and her surroundings . She does not know that she is safe , you do she does not . Give her at least 30 days to come around and also have you had her vet checked by an avian vet to make sure you got a healthy bird ? if not then I would make an apt asap at the nearest avian vet of your choice . She is still a bundle of nerves . Think of it like this what if you were ripped away from everything you knew all of a sudden and then throwed into a different world ? Well in a sense that is what has happened to her . But still make an apt with an avian vet just to have peace of mind that all is a okay with her health wise .

The very 1st thing is take her to a avian vet to make sure she is healthy. Its always a good idea to "well check" a new bird. Without seeing the bird, we can't tell if its normal "new home" stress or some sort of illness. Your vet can give you advise on feeding & caring for your bird.

She is probably scared & uncertain. Don't ask anything of her & let her adjust. You could sit beside her cage & talk to her, sing to her, just everyday chores to allow her to get used to you. When she seems more comfortable, offer her treats thru the bars of the cage, eventually you could lure her out by placing a treat just outside the cage. It could take months for her to trust you. So dont get frustrated. Enjoy your new bird, I've heard orange wings are nice birds. & We love pictures.

thanks for the help today she is totally different she has started to sing a bit shes also putting her head down for me to stroke her and has spent nearl all day outside of her cage eyeing up her surroundings ive also booked to see the vet for her to be checked over. thanks again

Also, have you checked to see if it's wings are clipped? That could be why it's not flying around. You might also check with your pet shop, they may have already had a vet check the bird and if so, would save you a few bucks.

O yeah we love pictures
