Since the Zon's cage was against the window, every time I let the GW's out they stand on the Zon's cage to look out. (top of the cage is covered!) They really can't see anything but the neighbor's garage.......So after the wife and I talking I moved cages around today. It completely altered the GW's behavior in the bird area, which I expected but not like this. ReaRea, who rarely flies and Miri would not stay out of the living room, landed on the curtains and proceeded to eat the walls. I kept putting them back to no avail....I put the cages back to where they were til I can sort this out. Birds can really get yer brain working sometimes......:54:

They're persistent boogers....lol....It becomes a game to them when you don't want them to do something...

LOL... They obviously objected to having their Cages moved and thought they would show you how upset they were by eating the walls

What's really strange is ReaRea flying, 95% of the time she just walks to the living room, the most she usually flies is about a foot or 2 from her cage to my shoulder.

but not like this. ReaRea, who rarely flies and Miri would not stay out of the living room, landed on the curtains and proceeded to eat the walls.
My take on it is that ReaRea and Miri must have been thinking: "hmmm... since he went and changed things around in here, it's only fair that we make some of our own custom changes!" ;):D

I'm sorry, but I think this is hilarious (although unfortunate). I hope they didn't get through the drywall and start working on the wood inside...

For the record, I've found it necessary to keep plenty of spackling paste around here ;):p

I see we have a bunch of comedians in here today......:54:

As it is I already have to redo the walls id the bird area and replace a curtain rod. We have those solar blocking curtains in all out windows except the small kitchen one. When the GW's land on them, they put pinholes in them with their claws. Think I'll go get some pics of the damage so far so y'all can LOL some more.:30::D

have you thought about putting up some cheap paneling for them to chew instead of the walls? I've seen peoples do that for toos that chew the walls and window sills.

yea, already went and picked some out, felt pretty slick so hoping they won't be able to grip it and using metal for the outside corners. I also got those real slim rocker switches to replace the light switches they tore up. (I was a carpenter for years so its no big deal for me.)

Wow! That IS pretty bad! I guess Rea and Miri were able to hang around there unsupervised for long enough to attain that level of destruction. Once repaired, you could always fashion some plexiglass barriers against those areas of the wall. I'm not sure how to protect the curtains and curtain rods though if the Macaws are going to continue to hang out on them.

Note: I wasn't kidding about the spackling paste... I do keep it ready to go and use it frequently, since Zaf likes to carve out grooves and craters in the drywall around here fairly often.

we knew they were doing it, but it just was't feasible to move the cages away from the walls due to space in there. It got that bad over several months anyway so I was already planning for replacing the walls.

Down side is, Deb wants me to do the living room as well....

My bfamazon chewed the wood down on a window, window frame, and baseboard when we weren't watching. Spackle won't help here. I've upped the number of chewable boards and foraging toys, hoping she'll forget about her diabolical amazon plan of reducing the house to toothpicks...

diabolical amazon plan of reducing the house to toothpicks

That there is downright humorous!!!! LOL

I definitely think the GW's are more "diabolical" than the Zon's :D

Holy cow!   I have, once again, largely underestimated the possible damage those beaks can do.
