Buzz is definitely stubborn but is happy. He's whistling, talking and playing with his toys all day long. He eagerly takes food from me, talks to me but no touching and no coming out of the cage. So I removed his food bowl and hung it outside the front of his cage and the door is open. I put his chop in the bowl this morning, he didn't touch it, just stared at the bowl. Around 10a I showed him a grape, he loves them and he came towards the door so I placed the grape in the dish outside his cage. He backed away from the door. Lunch time, I removed the bowl and got a new bowl and made certain he watched me put a grape (he didn't eat the one I gave him), and two almonds in the bowl. He's pacing back forth looking at the bowl trying to figure out how to get the food without exiting the cage, lol! Hopefully he will cave and step out of his cage. I will win, yes I will!

Here is Buzz yesterday with his favorite treat, a grape. He eats it very slowly enjoying every bite.

Ah yes grapes! Smokey would eat the green ones but would throw the red ones across the room, where Amy will eat the red ones and fling the green  go figure!
But as far as pineapple chunks..boy oh boy! Smokey would take her sweet time noshing on those..savoring every drop of sweet numminess lol.

Adorable.
I love your enthusiasm and determination! I'm betting on YOU!

I think.

Kidding!

I would recommend going a step back. If Buzz can't reach his dish, then put the dish close enough for him to reach. Even if it's right next to the door, you want to set him up for success. Keeping the bowl out of reach of what he's comfortable with is only setting him up for failure.

If he's comfortable enough to eat with the dish near the cage door, then continue doing that for a few days, then move it a little further out. Repeat this as he grows more comfortable coming towards the open door to eat.

Is there a perch on the door as well as the food pot? Agree to making it as easy as possible for Buzz to give in. Come on Buzz!

Thanks everyone. He does have a perch outside his door so he can get to his food dish, but yesterday we too a step back. I moved his cage. I was severely punished for doing that, he growled at me the entire day even after I moved it back to its spot. This morning, no growls so far but he's still very hesitant and won't venture past his "safety" perch. I am really being disciplined, lol!

Remember, your guy is not being tough, he's just being tremendously cautious and unsure!

No doubt! Each of my fids are so different and Buzz by far is so cautious and unsure. He's slowly progressing like he still won't come out of his cage but he will now come to the door and talk to me or he'll come to the door to take a treat from me. He won't eat from the bowl outside his cage yet. He has gone all day not eating and I cave putting his bowl in his cage in the evening with fresh chop.

No update like a good update! It really is a patience game with our little grey friends, and boy oh boy do they have some serious patience!

Great, Trace! I think you're doing a great job with Buzz! When it comes to greys, slow and steady is the way to go. You'll get there!
