So long story short when we took Pascal home he was on a seed diet. His previous owner said that him and the sun conure he shared a cage with would throw pellets out of the food bowl.
Well now he's eating about 50/50 pellets and seed/nut, but sunflower seeds are no longer a staple! Whoo.
Not only that, but today he shared apple slices with me!
So that makes 3 'people' foods he likes. Scrambled eggs, broccoli, and now apple. He doesn't like oranges, carrots, or pasta.
However, it's still progress! I'll be picking up some various peppers next time I go grocery shopping. I'm thinking he likes the colors. (Yellow, green, bright red..) so I'll stick to those colors and see what I can find!
I'd like to get him to eat sweet potato or carrots, just for the vitamin A. But I'm definitely not complaining! :)
(And, no, he doesn't get scrambled eggs frequently. Maybe once or twice every couple weeks. :) )

Had to share, I'm super proud of him!

That is just GREAT!!, I know how frustrating it is when you can't get them to eat the stuff you want them to eat

My father was old-school and all they gave my Amazon was seed back in the day, when the bird was passed to me I managed to get him to eat Harrison's, but never got the bird to eat vegetables or fruit :(

You should be very proud, BTW a picture of him eating would be really nice (hint hint:rolleyes:)

Joe

Thank you, Joe!! It can be quite frustrating at times, but luckily I don't give up easily. :)

And okaaay, if you insist... Because you asked nicely. ;)

"Why you gotta point stuff at me when I eat? Humans.."

"Ignoring you, I'm gonna move a BUNCH so your pictures can't focus.." :)

Edit: DISCLAIMER. To those of you who have noticed the aviator harness wrapped around his play-top perch, I assure you he is NEVER outside of his cage unsupervised, and every time he goes in his cage I make sure it is out of reach from between the cage bars. Even if he did get caught in it, I would be right there helping him before it escalated to something harmful. I do greatly appreciate any concern, and I apologize if I caused worry for anybody. :)

Yeah Pascal, good boy!

It's so frustrating when they won't eat the good stuff. None of my guys will eat veggies just fruit and scrambled eggs (what is with scrambled eggs they all like them). I think it's a good idea staying with the same color. My sun conure won't eat anything yellow (that includes the eggs).

Congrats and keep us updated :)

I think they all like scrambled eggs because it's warm and soft. And fruits because they're naturally sweet. (Like how people will say don't give your baby too much fruit, or else they won't want veggies cause they taste so different.) similar concept with birds.
Have you tried making them a veggie omlette? Peppers, herbs, etc? My ekkie would hardly eat any veggies by themselves so i shredded them and mixed them with his rice. That got him to eat it. :)

Pascal is such a good GIRL! Lol when are you going to get DNA for Pascal and Kiwi?

Lol I know, I know, cause everybody is just *dying* to know, right? ;)
I guess I'm one of the weirdos that really doesn't mind not knowing.:52:

Don't get me wrong, I still plan to have them tested, it's just not the highest thing on my priority list hehe. I'll get ahold of the vet tomorrow(if I remember) and get a price so we can go from there. Fair enough? :21:

I'll put a little red and green pepper in their eggs but they usually won't eat it. I use to chop up veggies and add a sprouted mix to it but they didn't eat it. I gave up on that so back to the drawling board. My conures are 80% pellets and my B&G is about 25%. I know pellets aren't bad but I would really like them to eat better.

Congratulations on your progress with Pascal! And thanks for sharing those pics, too! He's looking quite happy with his new accommodations. Btw, pumpkin is also good for vitamin A, if you wanted to give that a shot.

Aww, Pascal looks VERY Happy, what a sweetie !!

You know, when I DNA'ed my Poe I used one of those home kits and it only cost me $20, just clipped one of his nails 1/16 on an inch at a time til I got blood, it was VERY easy (I did have to towel him though) I just held a sterile cotton swab on the toe and it stopped bleeding after about 20 seconds

There are a lot of them out there, they should mail you the test kit for free

YAY!!! Great job and that's a good start. Buddy thinks he has to eat when we eat. So we can eat in peace I give him some fruit and/or veg and he's happy. He doesn't like broccoli or strawberries, he throws them out of his dish immediately. He likes veg more than fruit. Last week he and I started sharing peach, apricots, nectarine, white grapes and blackberries. I think eating it with him has helped, in other words he sees me eat it so he does too. His favorite is peppers.

Oh last week we went to a pho restaurant and hubby doesn't eat the veggies they serve to put in the pho. Bean sprouts, jalapeño and cilantro so I took home a birdy bag. The veg was super fresh and he loved the sprouts the most. I thought it was a great op to take him some goodies home, lol. Keep up the good work!

That's excellent! For some reason it's so rewarding seeing your bird eat healthier than you do, hahaha! Congrats with the progress, Pascal seems so lovely and happy in your home. I'm so glad you and your boyfriend welcome him into your home, especially because I get to see lots of pictures of him now! :D

I'm going to buy a small food processor (inspired from another member here that posted her chop mix) and I'm quite excited to feed it to Avery :) I would cooks for hours on end for her, and yet when it comes to me it's like, "hmm, cereal for supper sounds cool." Gotta love them! :)

Thanks for the info, Joe! I'll definitely look into that.
I didn't realize it until I looked at the pictures on a computer but WOW he has allot of green on him!! Maybe it's just the angle or the lighting but still hehe. That's probably my new favorite picture of him. :p

Taw: sounds awesome, he got some great fresh pho veggies!! Hehe. I always keep an eye out for anything I can bring home for the fids, unfortunately most things veggie-related that I get include onions, so no such luck yet. (That or I eat it all myself.. hehe)

Dino: I know, right? I'm over here making a grocery list for the birds and for me I'm just like "Hmm.. cereal, ramen noodles, chicken strips..." Lol. :p
