Well i just now found this bird forum and i just wanted to make a thread to say hi and greet u all. /greet thier were a few main reasons why i wanted to join this forum and im hoping i will get my answers and have a fun time on here. I for some reason just started getting very interested in birds after i seen a macaw but i think i want a cherry head conure more so im looking for one. Any one no a breeder that will ship and has reasonable prices, it dont have to breed ch but i do want a good breeder incase i change my mind they might have it. and about how many hours a day should u spend with this type of bird time allowing i will have about 5hrs a day and on weekends the hole day. hopefully u guys can answer this for me so i can get me a bird of my dreams/:D ty and ty for the responses.:red1::blue::red:

Hey BB and welcome to the forum, this is a great place to find answers and have fun while doing it, as far as breeders of CH conures go, might help if we knew approximatly where you lived, the shipping might very well be more than the actual bird in some cases, finding a breeder in your area might be a better way to go, as far as time spent with your bird goes, depends on the bird, some are more needy than others, though the QUALITY of time vs the QUANTITY of time is sometimes more important, birds can be funny, sometimes they will want to be handled, sometimes they won't, but will interact with you just by being in the same room, and sometimes just need their own quiet time alone, many people think of their fids(fids = feathered kids) as perpetual 2 year old children that never grow up, part of the responsiblity of being owned by your fid is to learn their personality and adjust your life to accomodate them....lol
good luck, have fun, and don't be afraid to ask questions, we're all here to learn...

G'day, welcome to the forum, you will love it here.

Birds are a huge commitment, but if your willing to dedicate time to it you will have a whole lot of fun.

Great advice given by Bobby, good luck with the search.

Hey, welcome to the forum! Cherry headed conures are great birds. As for a breeder, your best bet would be this place:Birds For Sale
They sell a lot of birds and they're located in Ohio, close enough to Indiana. You have to call for availability since they do have some birds that are not on the list. However, for shipping, not something I would recommend as it might stress the bird out even more along with a new home and different surroundings. Again, it's your choice. Good luck!

Welcome to the forum. Good advice has already been given so I'll just say "ditto". I've "heard" good things about the breeder in Ap's link above. Good luck finding the right bird for you...but remember, they're seriously a lifetime commitment.

the breeder that AP suggested is also good on my list, the price is a little bit lower than a pet store here might be, Mitred and Cherry Head conures are very similar, I do believe the Mitred conure is just a bit larger, shipping via the airlines, Delta, American Airlines ect is about $110-$130 continental US some breeders include the shipping crate, some don't so that could be another $30 or so, and some states require a certificate of health from a vet to transport out of state, so there can be other costs involved in having a bird shipped to you....

For this breeder, they ship through Delta airlines and it always costs $92, no matter where. They will send it to your nearest airport and you need to pick it up there. But from where you live, if you're willing to drive a few hours, you can pick up your bird there and drive home, since Ohio borders Indiana. It will be a lot cheaper and less stressful for you and the bird.

yea the problem is i will have to get someone to take me lol i guess it wont hurt to ask,yea 92$ is a lot for shipping i would rather put 50$ in my tank lol then i no its in good hands instead of in a cargo plane.

Hi there, welcome to the forum. This is a wonderful community full of knowledgable people who are always willing to help, or to just talk bird. :)

Cherry headed conures are fun little birds, very talkitive and playful. A nice choice! Do plenty of research, because you always want to be prepared. If you'd like to know more about this species, here are some links to try:

Birdboy, how old are you? Sorry if I sound too personal, LOL. I'm 16, so it'd be pretty cool to find another teen on here.

Hey what's wrong with us oldies (speaking for myself here)?? haha Welcome to the forum. Good luck in your search

hahaa, absolutely nothing wrong with you oldies, LOL. It's hard to find many people around my age who are crazy bird people. Only people I can think of is Ratzy (here on the forum), and my friend who has a quaker. That's it.

WOOOWHOOO im not the only one thats a yungster:) im actually 15 and nothing personal at all. well too bad my parents will nto drive that far to an airport so i will have to find a local breeder within 30mins of my house i rlly dont want to buy from a petstore but if thats what i got to do i guess thats my only option. actually im looking into all the conures and they are alll pretty neat looking and most of thier personalities are about the same accordign to the internet. i want a bird that talks though thats very interesting to me. i was looking into an african grey congo or the temmah***(not sure how to spell but u no what i mean). to bad i dont have that much to spend. put it this way its my dream parrot:32:. iv actually been looking at parrots for a while now about a year but right now i only have about 550$ to spend with about 40$ a week coming in(through the summer months). so hopeufully buy the end of sommer i will have about 8-900$ to spend. but if i find a bird sooner i will buy it. another question i no this sounds funny but i have a dog cage that is pretty big havent measured but it will hold a german sheperd in it,can i use this or no? the bird will not spend much time in the cage only at night and when im at school so this has to be nothing fancy. im in the fish hobby and this is by far the best forum iv been on.:D:42:. if u no any bird breeders that are in the northwest indiana reagion plz let me no.

I'm not too excited about the bird in a dog cage, lol. I'll look around for you and try to find a breeder in Indiana. Good for you on not buying from a pet store. Nobody likes those places anyway. One thing you can maybe do is make a deposit for the bird if you find one you really like, then save money to buy a proper bird cage, lol, toys, etc.

You might try the websites (Hoobly) and (Ebay Classifieds) under birds, you can search local listings that way, also for cages you can search (Craigs List) for good deals on used cages
