It has been one month as of May 16th since I adopted Savannah and I can't get over how well things are going with Savannah (aka Sinbad). I am now able to hold her against my chest and pet her and snuggle. She loves the attention. She is a little cuddle muffin. I am also giving her sweet little kisses on her beak and head. She loooooves that! :D I can't get over what a sweet girl she is. She is stepping up for me from inside the cage like clock work. I have even managed to get her to step up while on the outside of the cage a few times. She is a little more stubborn doing this!

I am so glad I took the chance and decided to make her a part of my family! My kids love her! My 3 year old son Marcus loves her but still gets a little too close. He is never around her without supervision, but even with that Savannah lunged at his face one day. He wasn't close enough for her to reach, but it really scared him (and me too for that matter). It just was unexpected at the moment. I think it was actually a good thing to make him understand that she can bite at any moment and to keep his distance! So he's been a little more respectful of her space! You can tell them until you are blue in the face, but sometimes it takes something like this to drill it into their head! He also cries when she sqwaks really loud. He is scared by the noise, but we are working on that and I think he is starting to understand that she is just making noise and isn't going to hurt anyone. Other then that. Things are going super well!

WOW, it's been a month already? Gees, time flies when you're having fun. ;)

It's SO nice to hear how far you've come with Savannah in SUCH a short amount of time! BRAVO!!! You are doing one hell of a job with her. :D

I just wanted to take a minute and respond to your post again Wendy. I was using my phone the first time and didn't want to type a lot. LOL!

I really appreciate your comments. I feel like I've made a tremendous effort to do right by Savannah and it is truly paying off. I think the love, attention and devotion that I have given her has really benefited her and I keep seeing her bloom a little more everyday. To read comments such as yours from another great parrot owner, just makes me feel proud. Thanks you again for the wonderful compliments! :D

Congrats one month already
All seems to be going well besides Savannah lunging at your sons face, birds will be birds.

You are handling everything so well...... HIGH FIVE

Keep up the great work

Congratulations!! I am so glad that both Savannah and you are doing so well!! You are doing a great job with her!

Rosie will lunge at my daughter, I think it is a bit of a jealousy thing. I'm not surprised that your son cries when Savannah screams. It can be horrendously LOUD. At least once a week my 8 year old daughter is in tears due to the noise. She has really sensitive hearing and the noise kills her. She refuses to leave the room however, which kills me! ;)

Happy Anniversary! How does Quince react to a new friend?

Antionette - Thanks so much! And yes, birds will be birds! I'm not upset at her because I know she is just being a bird. I think my son is getting the picture! Let's hope so we don't have too many incidents like that! Supervision and keeping his distance will keep them both safe!

kendrafitz - The noise is no fun for our little one's, but he doesn't love her any less. I think it is getting better. If your daughter is sensitive to the noise and won't leave the room, that would kill me, too. Poor thing! But if she doesn't want to leave the room, watcha gonna do, right!

Lotasha - That is a great question! Quincy is doing very well with her. He's been his normal self and I think he enjoys her company. I am able to let them out of their cages together (they are 10 feet apart mind you) and they do well. I feel comfortable enough to let them hang out when I'm not in the room at this point! But I don't go far. ;)

I do feel like Savannah feels he is part of the flock. When he was startled the other day and flew off his perch to the floor, Savannah began to yell as if to say "Man down, man down"! LOL! When I picked him up and he was safe on my arm, she stopped. She does get jealous of him, though! I don't expect them to be buddies, but I am glad they tolerate each other so well! :D

In time things will come together
You are being a brilliant guardian, taking things slowly one day at a time
In time you will be rewarded abundantly.

Thanks Antionette - I already feel lucky to have both of them in my life and I know it will get even better from here! That's the exciting part. You never know what each day will bring when you own parrots! LOL! But they certainly enrich my life and my families!

Good to hear that they are getting quite well one with another. Glad for you that you are happy with your large family:)

I agree one can't live without a bird

I can't imagine my life without Mishka

The joy and happiness he shares each and every day is priceless

I have her for half a year more or less. She is about 1 year old and started to say a word or two. I love her a lot.
I would like to have a macaw too, but can't afford it.
So it will e nice to see your posts about your parrots and their development:)

Can't agree more. I got my CAG after a long depressing period due to some serious problems I had. Some times I thought that life was worthless. Then someone brought me this book by Irene Pepperberg...and a little while after I bought my Tos'ka, who changed everything, gave a purpose in life, made me happy. So I also can say that she is priceless to me:grey:

Lotosha - Sounds like you and your grey have a great relationship! I've always wanted a Macaw, too! But price was always an issue. Savannah fell into my lap and was given to me at no charge. Sometimes you can find a rehome and pay a small rehoming fee or nothing at all. It depends on the owner. So a Macaw is certainly possible! When you are ready, just keep your eyes and ears open and do a little searching and I bet you can find the macaw perfect for you, too! :) So many birds need good homes! In the meantime, have fun with your grey!

Antionette - Non bird people will never quite understand, will they?! :)
