I got1 pair YNA but the male has only 1 leg due to incident since he was 2 year old. Now he is 8 year old and pair with female 6 years old. They are now on 2 eggs. I 'm not sure that the possibilty that he can sucessfull breed due to his leg problem. Anyone has experiece?

Welcome to the forums. :)

Well, the male certainly seems to be getting around quite well, despite his handicap. :) If this is the first clutch, please don't hold your breath. The hen is still quite young, so the eggs may not be fertile.

Have you seen them copulate?

Hi Jersey

Thank for you reply. Yes it is their first clutch and i never seen them copulate.
They may or may not do that since i never observe them before until female disappear then i reailzed that she got eggs. The male is alway guard the nest when i close to the nest. Later i wll pull egg to check

Welcome to the forum. Funny this comes up now. was just watching a DYH pair attempt mating. New pair i put them together 5 yrs ago. The hen is older(12-15) the male is about (9-11). The hen knows what is going on and how to "do it". The male is completely lost. She goes so far as to bite at his feet to try and make him "step up". I've been watching this pair for years and they are very determined, if there's a will, there's a way. I wouldn't expect much the first couple of tries but yes, i think it could work out OK. Who know's, you might have good eggs now. I wouldn't bother to candle them, nothing to be gained. You could cause a new( young ) pair to stress and destroy their own eggs. I'd give her 30 days and see if they hatch. Then pull them. Chances are they would lay another clutch. Especially with napes,,, i stay out of the nest box until i'm ready to pull the babies.

Tong, you have the video set to 'private', so we can't watch it. :( If you change it to 'unlisted', we'll all be able to see. :)

why would you take the babies away? why not let the parents raise them as they would in the wild?

Just curious, I am not a breeder by no means, but I would figure that they would be much better off with the mother raising them
