What happened to my sweet loveable Zoey? She has bitten me 3 times this week! I have done nothing different except bought her different food. I bought her some parrot food from Walmart but it was full of bugs so poured it outside for my wild birds and went to Pets Mart and bought her some different kind of food. Surely changing her food couldn't make her this mad. I scold her after she bites me and put her back in her cage and ignore her for a bit. But what in the world would make her do this? She's never acted like this befoe. :( Do you think it's a phase she is going through? Do you think she might be bored? I'm thinking about buying a portible play gym that has rollers on it so I can put her in the same room that I am in in the evenings. Please help. Thanks!!!!

Unless your buying fruits & Veggies from Walmart, EWclectus shouldn't be fed reqular bird seed mixture from Walmart.

One of the forum members turned mr on to this site and I would highly recommend you check it out if your feeding Walmart bird food to your Eclectus. Mood swings can also be a result of hormons & molting. If your unsure, a vet visit might be in order.

jasper was like this when we first got him..

his first 2 or 3 days were perfect he was a great fella now bites and was a sweet as anything. then suddendly he became very aggressive and would bite lung and growl at us.

my thoughts were that he had realised his home had changed and his parents were no longer there and the overall change had hit him. it took him a few weeks but slowly he learnt to trust my boyfriend. and now a year later he will trust me and i can do anything with him.

just give her some time, she is 2 years old, and her hormones are raging at her age and the change of a new owner has probably become real to her if you know what i mean. she will come around :)

also for her food, we give jasper a large parrot seed mix in his cage for him to pick at as he wishes, and then his main diet is peppers(more orange and red) carrots, parsnip, spinach, melon, cherrys, sweet potato, pomegranate, and a mix of beans that we soak over night for him. :)

I don't have any personal Ekie experience but could be hormonal.... Or, could be irritated with the diet change if she's hungry. I feel that I should say that ANY "bird food" from Walmart is not the kind of food you would want to feed your parrot. To just be blunt, with no offense to you, it's comparible to a daily diet of McDonald's that's been sitting out or droped on the floor before it's given to you.
What kind of food were you feeding before the replacement food from Walmart and what did you pick up at Petsmart? Maybe you could offer a variety of new things and get her used to a nice healthy diet since you've already made a change to what she was eating prior. Just here to help!

I've had her about 4 months. And the food I was getting at Walmart was for Parrots. But not anymore! The previous owner bought food there as well. I bought ZuPreen from Pets Mart but I am giving her more fresh veggies and fruits too. She seems to really enjoy them. :) I welcome ANY advice from anyone and appreciate it. Thank you all. You all have been very helpful.

Zupreme is a good pellet. Is she liking it?

Again! Pellets aren't good for ekkies!!!! There's health risk involved with toe tapping and wing flutter... you really need to do some major research!!!

I use very little seed or pellets but I found this web site with a recipe that I feed my eckies. The vet said it is a very good base food for them. Maybe you will like to see if she likes it. www.http://shadesecestus.com/diet.htm All four of my birds love the bird mash.
