Forrest takes a shower with me every day. I don't think I could shower without him being in there with me. LOL
When I say "do you want to take a shower" he comes running down the couch and jumps on me. He loves it and so do I.

how do you have them shower with you? i know showering is sort of a personal thing but i mean how do you accustom your bird to it? where do they sit? or do they just kind of run around?

I was wondering the same thing, also, how do you use shampoo and soap? I keep reading if it smells strong to us it's probably bad for the bird (besides the chemicals in shampoos and soaps can't be good to get on the bird either)

Best approach is to have a dedicated shower perch and split your shower time in two. I would recommend that first half of the shower be you and bird time, second half is cleaning yourself with your shampoo/conditioner/soap. I recommend the second half so there's no risk of residue in your hair/on your hands, etc when interacting with the bird in the shower.

Some owners do it in reverse and have personal shower first, shared shower second so they can come out at the same time and dry their bird down. If you decide to do this, ensure you clean away ANY kind of soap/shampoo/conditioner beforehand.

With getting them used to a shower, start by supplying shallow water bowls (enough to splash in, but not enough to float in) or misting and see how they react. (Deep water can be dangerous - drowning and/or damage to their chest area due to the air sacks in their bones - there's a proper description of it, but I can't remember the exact details). If they react positively to it, then allow them to splash around in the bathroom sink. Once they're used to that, start taking your shower while they're splashing around.

Often, they'll be curious as to what you are doing and may want to join you. Have their shower perch away from the force of the water/showerhead and let them check out the shower. It's new, so ensure that ALL of their experiences with water are positive (use an excited voice, heaps of praise, etc). If they're keen enough, they'll put their head out, fluff up and may spread their wings to splash in the water. Take it slow. If you rush it, it may not like it. But if they do, then many fun shower times to be had! :D

Lucy loves shower time! We do have a shower perch, but that's mostly for her to shake/dry while she watches me. I start off by getting us both wet, with the water bouncing off of my skin and her getting the light bouncing droplets. I will also cup my hand and drop the water along her back, and wash her belly/butt with fingers. After she is done is when I will wash myself. I put the shower head facing down so she does not get any soap on her feathers. The perch is higher and farther back than the stream of water.

She does not dig towels since that's what the store used when they clip her nails and wings, so I let her air dry. I get a kick out of watching her fluff and shake constantly. She's such a cutie!

This was her after her first time in the shower. She likes to hang out on the curtain rod.

My conure loves taking showers too!! It;s hard work though trying to clean yourself and then have only one arm to do so since they are getting clean on your other arm :) Too cute!!!!

I made a homemade shower perch I took a plastic perch I had from an old cage and took too strong section cups with hooks they are plastic and stuck the perch in the hook and it stays, I asked the vet yesterday about the shampoo and soap and she said it wouldn't hurt her, just if it gets on her to simply wash it off. Coop loves to shower with me also she just moves her head back and lets the water relax her! Kinda like a little birdie massage!!! Enjoy!!!! :rainbow1:

Petco and Petsmart both carry shower perches for all sizes of birds . and I shower bogart once a week nat everyday because everyday (or so I have read) can cause mating behavior because it mimics spring when the rainy season starts and mating. a warm bathroom in winter is where he get to dry off no blow dryers because some have teflon in them.
