One thing I love about Portland is it doesn't snow much, but when it does this site pretty much sums it up:eek::rolleyes::09::

Is it snowing in Portland, Oregon?

No one here can drive in it and last year about an inch brought the city to a standstill for 2 days. A couple years ago, it snowed about 6 inches and we were just snowed in for days with no way to get the car out. Mostly because no ploughs came, no salt/gravel trucks for several days, basically had to wait for it to melt off naturally. It was ridiculous! We'll be hunkered down for a couple days, no doubt.

Come on we need PICS, don't believe you without pics! LOL

Don't worry it probably just got lost on the way to the UK?

Ahhh, Snow in the Great White North! Its begining to look a lot like Christmas here. Our God's of Weather (Well, They Think So!) are 'predicting' up to 18" (or just short of 975 mm) of snow starting today and ending early Monday morning. Our Inland Ocean (Lake Michigan) shoreline 'could' see up to 30" (760 mm) of snow during this period.

Our News Media has reporters at nearly every corner becrying the coming End of Life in Western Michigan! Us Old Timers response; Oh look Honey, another day in Snow Country!

Hint: First really Snow Fall of the Season!

I'll have to do that (if it starts sticking)! I don't think it got lost, more it was summoned here by the green powers that be to keep the humans indoors and close by for a few days:green::16::25:

We came from snow country (high mountains) and got a few good (12-24") storms every winter with numerous smaller storms. But because there were ploughs and gravel up there, it was only really an inconvenience for a day or 2 (even the big storms). Here in PDX people freak out at the first sight of the white stuff and the city shuts down. It's hilarious, but makes it dangerous to go out even if you know how to drive in it because most people here do not!

I love how in recent years seasonable winter weather has become one long sequence of running apocalyptic hysteria all winter long thanks to the media. Instead of a "snowstorm is coming, be a bit more cautious when driving, use common sense and engage your brain", it is now "the polar vortex of DEATH is coming!!!!!" and "we encourage you to FREAK OUT!!!!":rolleyes::rolleyes:

Keep safe out there in your first snowfall of the year!

If it snowed in Miami, forget driving. People cant drive here when its sunny... forget snow. One of the things I miss most about NYC is that people know how to drive! Half the people here go UNDER the speed limit, and are so hesitant about everything.. a simple turn takes 5 tries before they commit to it even if theres no one else on the street.. its like they go to make the turn, then back out scared someone coming, and again and again. No one uses signals, and accidents happen all the time because no one pays attention combined with being so hesitant about every move they make which confuses rhe people around them and then bam. Like, either commit to the turn or dont!! The uber drivers drive me nuts half the time and will go a mile around a block instead of making a uturn. In NYC they teach defensive driving when you learn.. I guess they dont here.
I feel your pain!!!

Y'all are saying the S-word!
And we're getting our first REAL one tonight...

And, tomorrow, then over the weekend and into mid next week! As I said earlier: Oh look Honey, another day in Snow Country!

After looking at all the charts, its clear to me that way out in Portland an Amazon named: Kiwi likely has a great deal to do with all this. And, I got that information from a really good source!!!

We already have four inches up here! And where it was plowed, about three feet in some areas!

Temps are 10 degrees out right now!

We used to live in Florida for a while, and I still prefer it up here. ^^

They are at least promising shove-able for those of us in the Boston area, where we always have to hear about where the fateful "rain/snow line" will end up. Ah, the joys of winter in New England!

I do love snow. And so far we just have teensy flakes, but I am hopeful, and my shovel is ready.

Well, the 'Snow Storm' concluded in the very early minutes Monday morning. By 1:00 am the storm had moved East of us and the clean-up began. With the proud support of the News Media, nearly every school system in a 100 mile radius of us had Posted their Closing prior to 1500 hrs (3:00 pm) yesterday afternoon (Sunday). By 4:00 am, the reporting County and City Government groups had been reporting that all main highways been cleared of snow and that they had begun on local and City roads. Point being, all School Bus routes had be cleared of snow by 5:30 am, which would have allowed the School Bus to run.

So, did our News Media admit to over-stating the effects of that snow storm - no way! They are already switched their attention to the next weather events of this week: A return of 'extreme' cold weather with the high likelihood of another 'major' snow event this Friday.

Another Day, in the Great White North!

I have elected to come back in my next life as a Weather Expert!!! I plan on having an Amazon who will crew a wood toy and I will read the wood chips and determine the coming Weather:
Wood Chips moving around - Windy
Wood Chips damp - light rain
Wood Chips wet - heavy rain
Wood Chips with a light covering of snow - light snow
Woods chips covered with snow - heavy snow with wind
Etc...

Last weeks storm never materialized into much besides some slush/ice overnight. This week it's predicting again 3-4 inches again. Hope this storm turns out like the last one! Sorry to our eastern neighbors who have been doomed by the blue fronted demon bird:D

It was a nice seventy degrees here today and yesterday, after being in the thirties the day before that. You guys talk snow: in central Texas we just wonder whether it's going to be a sweater day or a tank top day when we wake up tomorrow. It will probably be ninety in the morning. Or possibly sleeting (because why snow when you can sleet and turn the roads into a muddy mess?).

Hey, I think you just coined a 'new' Weather Term: A Blue Front! A Blue Front would be different from a Warm Front or a Cold Front since it is forced front from the depths by a Demon Bird, a Blue-Fronted Amazon! :D

So about 2-3" of snow=utter chaos on the roads. We were watching some of the live traffic cams last night on the news and I don't know if I've ever seen such a spectacle. Apparently peoples normal commutes were taking 6+ hours and theres hundreds of abandoned cars all over the freeways today. Walked down to the main road this morning and there were abandoned cars all over and even one of the smaller busses couldn't make it. What happens when it snows a bit in Portland, you just can't make this stuff up!

What's snow? Is it the tiny, little white dots from the sky and very cold?

The last I heard there was snow here was decades ago if any just little. I just can't wait until January when the lows actually start to feel like lows. And the breezy overcast during the days. Hey, coming from a native Floridian this means a lot. It is amazing out west where temps average in the 100s in the summer, that are 20-40 degrees lower during the day and 30+ lower degrees in the evening........
