R.I.P Tweeters the Cockatiel<3
I found out that at my bird store/rescue (sell baby birds and supplies, and take in rescues) you can volunteer as soon as your 16! I was talking to one of the employees about bird stuff, and she was pretty surprised that I knew so much about parrots ( I knew what a 'cere', 'quick', and 'pin feather' was , and that toos and macs took pretty long to wean ) and she said "You can volunteer here as soon as you turn 16, you know. You know almost as much as me."
Now, I thought that was pushing it, she's really knowledgable!
Anyways, I talked to my parents and they okayed it, even though I still have over 2 years until I'm 16. I hope that with juggling school and the fids, I'll have time for volunteering. It sounds like a great way to handle and get experience with big and baby birds, and handling some of the bigger guys that really intimidate me. (AKA Big macaws and bigger toos) I'll also maybe get to work with the rescues. That will be fun! Next time I go Ill ask them more about it.
My dad also okayed another bird once I turn 16..... Im sure i can handle it, but what do you guys think? I have had 5 birds at a time (3 budgies and 2 tiels) and I handled it. I don't think I'll be able to get the BCC I've been dreaming of, noise is a definite issue, and I don't think one fits. Maybe later in my life, but not now. I've been thinking of a tiel. Ever since Tweeters died, I kind of feel empty without a cockatiel, if that makes any sense. The store owner breeds tiels, so I'll have no problems. I definitely wouldn't be able to deal with another whiteface. They look... way to much like him..... I'm thinking of just getting a different mutation, a male. I have A LOT of time to think about this.....
