Mjölnir a.k.a Olly the adorable Major Mitchell
Good morning!

I've let my Major Mitchell out of his cage this morning, and he's headed over to his favourite spot on his cage and started 'begging'. At least, I think it's begging.

But I can't figure out what he's asking for. He's out of his cage.. He has fresh water and food.. He has toys right nearby too. I've been talking to him too, he stops for a little while but starts begging again very quickly.

I just want to go over and give him a lovely scratch, but he is still very unimpressed with being touched.

Does anyone have any info or suggestions that could be relevant to this??

Hi Miss JD, for some reason I can't see your video.

I can't see the video either:(...and after his wake up routine, I wanted to see more of Olly:)

If all his other needs are being met, I was wondering if Olly gets to come out of his cage? I know you haven't had him for too long and he's still settling in, but perhaps it is time to 'secure' the room and see if Olly is ready to come out:D Just a possible reason he would be 'begging' if he's already been fed, watered, has toys and is getting attention;)

I'll video him more often then!

He spends many hours out of his cage most days. Usually he likes to just chill out either on his open door, or on the cage near me. Every now and then he flies a lap or two around the room but mostly he just sits or sleeps near me.

I can only assume he decided that it was time to come out of his cage and was telling me so!

Actually, here's the video I tried to post earlier:

He's out of his cage while doing it!

Edit: Here's another of me trying to encourage him to 'talk'!

Within about a week of coming home, Olly was exploring outside of his cage. This is him visiting Chibi the galah:

At one point he even flew to my head!

Olly is so beautiful! Thanks for sharing :)
In the first video, is that his "regular" noise? The reason I'm asking, I had an Eastern Slender Billed Too who had a call like that. Louder, but that sort of "chirp". Not at all like a Cockatoo noise.

It's certainly a noise that he makes a lot and it is most often accompanied by the crouching, head-bopping and wing-quivering that's in the video. But he also likes to chirp happily to himself a lot as well. Especially just after bedtime - He'll sit there clicking his beak and chirping until he falls asleep.

He also gets a little clingy sometimes and screeches if he's not sure where I am but that is happening less and less all the time.

Thanks, that video works! I'm quickly becoming an Olly fan, love the videos.

I may be wrong, but IMHO, I'm guessing that's seductive behavior on Olly's part. My U2 is a real flirt, he's been with me long enough to understand I'm not a potential mate and flirting with me leads no where, but let an unsuspecting woman come in and he makes an absolute fool of himself. He almost fell off his perch yesterday while displaying for his newest love interest. The first time he met her he said, "I love you, kisses," for the first time ever. I love the Toos.

The lovely lady Popeye fell so hard for is a contractor. She still can't remember my name but knows the names of all six of my parrots.

I guess I'm wondering whether that noise along with him crouching, nodding and quivering his wings is normal or whether he's trying to ask for or tell me something?

I'm usually pretty good with Olly's body language but this one has me stumped. I called it 'begging' because that's what I've been told before but I'm just not sure what he could be begging for?!
