We got Freckles in a very small cage. They said they had her for almost 3 years and we've got her a much bigger cage but she seems terrified of it. When we put her in there, she gets to a corner asap and just sits there. She wont eat or drink or do anything and often whines :-( she really only spends her nights in the cage, since she prefers to be with someone. Should we just keep her in the old cage? Heres a pic of the two cages.

Sometimes I think birds feel secure in a smaller cage, but that old one is awfully tiny. It's probably just a matter of time and getting used to having more space. You might leave her in the old one, but close to the new one and let her start checking it out on her own. Leave both doors open and I bet eventually she starts climbing on or going into the new one. Put some of her favorite foods into the new one and let her see that you put them there. And maybe after she decides to move into the new one, she might still rather sleep in the old one for awhile. She might also like a Happy Hut or something she can hide in to feel more secure. However, she might also want to start laying eggs. Perhaps a big cotton rope toy to cuddle against would be better.

I dont think they ever covered her either, she freaked out in her little cage the first night when i covered it. I felt terrible. Last night when we put her in her cage for bed, she whined, and im a sucker. She ended up sleeping on my night stand in the bedroom.

She might also feel more secure if the cage is in a corner or if you put some plants around it. Just choose bird safe plants or even artificial ones.

Is there a way to maybe put the smaller cage into the larger? so she has the security of her old cage but can also feel secure while still being "in" the new cage, but leave the door of the small cage open in case she wants to venture into the larger one.

I thought that they were a good news and will order again.

Maybe if the little cage fits into the bigger cage you can leave it in there with the door open.???

Just a thought. Good luck :)
