ok so I was set on a GCC and then alll of the sudden I found myself considering Quakers again! I've beeen through this before I can't stand it when I can't make a decision. So anythoughts about these two species would be apprecitated. Thanks alot
BTW one of the things I really liked about the GCC was everyone I ad been around had beensuch a clown - my cockatiel evern though in a lare cage with toys just kind of sits there and eats and stuff - I wantes a bird that most likely would play with toys and be more interactive.

I have found that with my Tiels, they always seem happier to be inside their cage than come out. Most of the time, even when the door is open they don't venture out. :(

Quakers are lovely, and some of the colouring of them is amazing. Here are some sites I found. I was looking for one in particular which shows them building a nest out of straws that their owner had given them, It was really awesome. I'll keep looking for that one. Also gives a list of States that they are legal in, Just checked again and they are legal in Texas with no restrictions.

As soon as I find the other site that I was thinking about I'll get it posted. These little guys are real characters I knew a lady who had one and the things she did with hers was brilliant, they had so much fun together.

Quakers would certainly be very entertaining

ok thanks I'm going to do some more research and I will definitly check out those websights! that's the great thing about texas you can have just about any exotic animal as long as you are caring for it properly! There's this show Animal Cops located in houston and they are always rescuing tigers and bears and stuff like that :( LOL

Tiels are actually very cute. Found a clip on You Tube of a guy that clicker trains his female tiel, and it was so sweet the way she'd do everything. Have no idea how to place it on here, but i can tell you guys, its cute. Looks like you are really having trouble what birds best for you.

My advice is to read up about them at your library- have many behaviour kind of stuff, and google on images, they give images and great webites aswell with it. The next is to choose your most favourites and go see good reputable breeders, talk to them and please ask questions, even dumb ones! It worked for me, and when your happy with the bird and breeder, take it from there.

Keep posted, would love to know what your decision was in the end!

I'll have a look for that link and see if I can find it.

If ever you want to put a link up, just copy it from the page then click this sign
createlink.gif
then you can paste the link into the box that comes up. You'll have to delete the http:// in the URL box, or the link won't work. Hope this works for ya.

That is brilliant, I also looked at the other two.

I love clicker training and use it a lot with all my guys. They really respond well to it.

OK so some lnks I read I'm like no way then I read another link and I'm like tis ight be the perfect bird for me! LOL I guess my big question is I want something that is more interactive than a cockatiel but relativly small and NOT extreemly hyper but playfull. That's my biggest thing I know you can't generalize species but does anyone have any ideas?

I have found a few sites here of some of the smaller birds.

These really are acrobats they love to hang upside down, I have some pics of my two enjoying a shower somewhere.

Bourkes are very quiet and very sweet, Think out of all my guys these are the only ones that have never bitten any member of the family.

Go to Description and it will give you some great advise on these amazing birds.

With any bird, I would go for a hand tame bird. Hand reared doesn't necessarily mean hand tame.

Hope these help.

With the Linolated parakeets, Always go for hand tame, more than hand reared. My two were hand reared but not hand tame and it took me quite a while to get them to accept the hand for any other purpose than to bite. lol.

I'm starting to get all excited now, trying to work out which bird you will go for. Also looking at all these bird sites has gotten me all broody again, I want more birds. lol A couple of Senegals, Red Bellies, Brown heads etc etc. :D

ok so right now i am 99% positive I want a quaker can anyone reccomend a good cage size??? Most places I found said 18X18 the cage I was planning on using for the GCC is 18X24 but I have a play stand and larger cage to alternate with the cockatiel to keep things intresting.

You're very welcome.

I love the Senegals, but then if it has a beak, feathers and feet I seem to love em. :D As far as the cage goes, I would get the biggest one that your price range will allow, Have you tried ebay, they have some very good cages and you can pick them up very cheap sometimes. :D

Look what I found. Its very cute and sweet.

awwwww - I've already contacted the breeder even though I live out in the boonies I am fortunate to have a lady that breeds exclusivly quakers about 30 miles away!!!

Your choices are endless and that makes it hard hey. I think quakers are really nice parrots and gcc are also great. So go for either and I dont think you can go wrong.Just have a look around and see what may be available.

I somehow along the way missed something. Are you getting your quaker in december? I missed it, when is he/she coming home? And what colour is it going to be? Keep me updated, im wondering off along the way, seems like it:eek:

And remember pics of your baby, i love baby fids!!!:p
