Parrots
Bean the Blue Front Amazon, Chico the Ringneck, and Ida the African grey
So I have had Ida for about a month now, and boy is she a handful. She is into EVERYTHING. I have been around many greys and none have been like her. She is curious about everything and is constantly exploring every inch of the apartment, and finding new things to destroy. She loves looking out the window, and so far isn't spooky. What are some of the ways you keep your greys busy? My amazon is content with playing with whatever I put on the table, playgym, or top of his cage. Ida gets bored quickly, and is on to the next thing in a matter of minutes.

Have you tried the electronic babysitter, cartoons. Merlin can watch cartoons for hours. She's probably just a baby, has to see & touch everything. You may just have to grin & bear it until she matures. Greys are smarter, that means more easily bored??? I bet Miskas mommy has some ideas.

She isn't interested in tv. :( Right now she is watching the kids playing outside. Hopefully that lasts a couple minutes. lol

The kids, untapped resourse. Maybe they can earn their allowance by entertaining their little sister.

Welcome to the world of the intelligent grey. So much so that they need your guidence or they quickly get bored. There are puzzle toys, some safe baby toys, talking telephones they can peck at, they seem to love the safe type bells, music with nursery rhyms they can mimic. Rosie loves to look at the centerfold of Bird Talk Mag. I also take her for walks within my apt. halls to visit with other people and see new sights. I have a large plastic flat case that I put all broken toy parts to use in making new toy and she loves it when I get that out. They also love leather pieces to chew on. Teach to climb a ladder and put on top of shower curtain rod and see what happens. Most of all have fun!! I also go to craft stores and get laarge beads, both wood and plastic, and put them on short hemp cord for foot toys. Greys love to hold toys in their foot. You can also find wood blocks and other safe things for them to chew on. That is one of the fun parts of having a grey...................use your imagination to create their envoronment. Foster/Smith has toys you can train with for tricks. I had Rosie picking up small objects of of one container and putting them into another container. I just said pick up and then drop it.

wow everyone is so creative! this sounds realy crazy, but scince were haveing fun....what if you got a wind up mouse (make sure its bird safe as far as paint, parts etc) and strapped her favorite treat to it, wind it up and see if she likes chasing it??? i know shes not a cat lol, but who knows, it would be pretty fun to watch lol! you could also try foraging toys or stick treats in her existing toys, or the kids songs. good luck, btw your.....grey....is...ADORABLE! :D

Ann I love your signature message. There are so many people that do not take their birds to a vet. They charge so much money but in the long run it is well worth it.

two words, after spending 2500. on my dog that I ended up putting down anyway, PET INSURANCE. its worth it. just make sure your vet clinic takes the insurance you have. otherwise your getting it for nothing.

Thanks for the ideas. Ida enjoys playing with my daughters learning toys. :) My daughter, who is almost 4, actually loves sharing them with her and trying to teach her the noises and sounds. I guess maybe the hardest thing so far has been getting her to play on her own. I ordered some things from Foster and Smith the other day. Just got the package. I have some wooden puzzles that my daughter doesn't play with anymore, maybe I'll try those.
