I love my parrots, I would like to make that clear right away so no one gets the wrong idea...

So Chico, 30+ year old Ringneck has decided the last 3 days to just SCREAM out his "flock call" as I call it. He usually does this for a couple minutes when he sees me in the morning and a few minutes before bed. It seems like once or twice a year he goes through, what I call, his annoying calling. If any of you have a ringneck, you know what I am talking about. Its ear piercing and honestly makes me crazy.

Over the years I have tried covering him, telling him "Inside vocie", etc. He has everything he could ever want... What to do with this old man? I don't know what the breeding season is for ringnecks, but I wouldn't think it is the middle of summer.

But is it hormones and mate calling in the middle of summer? It seems more like attention calling. He just finally got done with a long molting process (I forget to mention that above) in that time he was very quiet, kept to himself, and needed a lot of space.

I know what their screeches are like, but I have no experienced this yet, thankfully Damien is still young. My heart goes out to you tho, because ringneck screeches are ever so loud, he makes me jump each time he randomly screeches out: and you can hear it throughout the house too.

Hope something works out, if it is hormonal could the vet be any help? *hug*

I am just trying to be patient while I slowly go deaf. lol Love the little guy, but my goodness, what a set of lungs on such a little fella. And now Ida is picking it up. Oh goodness. :)

Will he sit w/you as you go about your day? This would be hard to take, I bet earplugs would help.

Ida, I would be sorry if she picked it up. Maybe it will pass quickly.

It finally stopped for the day. I would love to have him on my shoulder all day long as I go about my day, but I feel that would only make the problem worse if there was a day I wouldn't be able to have him there. He's a good little boy, he really is. He's just having a few day tantrum. :)

Pedro answered your ?. Ringnecks breed in the late summer. fyi Now you know why Chico is giving you such a hard time.

Our Alexandrine doesn that. 3 screeches in a row with about 2 min between each set. If he gets bad enough Jade screeches at him to shut up.

It is very annoying.

I hate to find him annoying because he is really a lovely little bird, but my goodness. lol

We have to face it, sometimes they are annoying. As much as I love Merlin, sometimes he gets on my last nerve. lol
