I posted a thread a couple of days ago asking for help for my new lovebirds. I think I now know why they are acting odd! I caught them in "the act", so they do appear to be a mating pair. What do I need to do? Do I need to get them a nesting box? Just wait and see? They'll be two years old in November, so I guess they're the right age. Ack... I just wanted two cute little pets!:whiteblue::whiteblue::52:

Then do not give a nest box and if they do lay remove the eggs. You never have to breed. Also there is a chance that they may even be a same sex couple.

well, that's up to you if you want them to have babies.
If not, remove the eggs once they are laid(watch your hands, they will bite to protect)

If you do want babies, then you can get them a good size nesting box, add care fresh or aspen shavings. make it about 1.5-2" in depth, and they will probably go into it in no time.

there is a lot more to this, so I would consider thinking long and hard whether you want babies or not.

Thanks, Crimson... Where will they lay the eggs if I don't have a nesting box? Or, do I need to get one and then just remove the eggs. I don't think I'm ready to babies yet. I'm still trying to tame them down.

Also, do you have any suggestions on how to get them to eat fresh fruit/greens. I don't think their previous owner gave them anything but pellets and seed. My last bird (a pionus) ate everything I did. I'm not used to birds rejecting food.

IF they lay it will be on the grate of the cage. Make sure there is nothing to shred and make a nest with.

Chop up veggies and fruit and sprinkle seeds on top. That will get them picking throw it.
