Green cheek conure - Sydney (Syd) Hatched 2/2017
Does anyone else sing nursery rhymes to their GCC? Am I finally crazy?

I just for fun, you understand, sang BaaBaaBlack sheep (you probably don't know it in the States - but here in the UK it's an old standard) to Syd just as I was settling him for the night. He was riveted. Over the following weeks I introduced him to others all of which he seemed to enjoy.

Today, he was out and about doing his own thing and suddenly landed in front of me giving me that look that says 'pleeeese'. For a while I couldn't think what he wanted but he climbed up onto my thumb, I cupped my hands around him and he leaned in going very quiet and still.

I have just gone through an entire repertoire of different nursery rhymes bouncing him about up and down to the words just as if he was a toddler child. He was completely still, didn't take his eyes off my face and just uttered the occasional chirrup when each one was finished. We must have been 15 minutes - I think he would have continued but as he was completely relaxed I popped him in his cage where has has quietly played since.

I fear I may have either found a new communication app or completely lost my mind!

Well if you’ve lost your mind then I say join the club!

In an attempt to bond with my new baby Quaker I’ve been singing him ABBA tunes and some old war songs like “We’ll Meet Again” and “There’s A Long Long Trail A-Winding” and stuff like that. My vet says my boy is the calmest Quaker he’s ever met, so I say do whatever works! :)

my conure enjoyed my renditions of Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley hits

if it keeps both of you happy then why not! We're already labeled as crazy folk so why not give in to the madness?

The best way to shut the macaw up I ever knew - just sing to her!
Either she relaxes or starts muttering/lisping allong.

Even on the way "home" she went from stressing out like mad to relaxed and almost sleeping with me and my friend just bawling our version of a rather naugthy song

(if you are not of legal age... do not click this, you have been warned)

it is stil her favorite, so I'd like to share ;)
(great band, the rest of their songs are more 'decent' anyway)

I only WISH!

When I sing ANYTHING to the Rb, he shrieks bloody murder until I shut up.

NO, my voice isn't bad...
I come from a musical family and have soloed (past tense, right?) in groups, choirs...

But then, the Rb Loves J-Lo.
Infidel.

lol, I sing to all my animals. It's fun.

Oh good - what a relief! My adult daughters are convinced I have finally lost it. After a lifetime of dogs, here is their Mum suddenly singing to of all thinks a small parrot! I am sure that when alone they mutter together about men in white coats being needed.

I'm sorry... your daughters (and yourself) don't sing to the dogs!? I feel personally attacked

maybe it's living with my mother but that's nothing!

Now if they wake up and see you in the garden pushing round a vacuum cleaner that's an appropriate time to call the white coats.

(My mother got turf laid in the garden and I had no idea you had to vacuum the stuff so a hungover sunday morning seeing that is a good way of getting concerned)

Who in the US doesn't know " Baa Baa Blacksheep"? I thought that was a standard nursery-rhyme that everyone knew, lol. I used to have a huge, hardcover book of nursery rhymes when I was little, it had a black and white checkered hardback cover, and they still sell it here today. It has hundreds of nursery rhymes in it, and "Baa Baa Blacksheep" was one that I clearly remember my dad reading to me every single night when I was like 3-4 years old...I still know all of the words!!!!!

If I read Bowie "Baa Baa Blacksheep", he'd probably start yelling "Baa Baa! Baa Baa!" constantly, over and over again. Right now it's "My Baby! My Baby!"...uhg

Well I've set up a playlist on my iTunes for nursery rhymes! Loads of them! I can leave them playing when I go out! Those & a carefully chosen list of songs that I love, incase Luna ever learns to talk, so I don't get driven mad by songs I don't like!!! lol
Oh & I sing 'Good Morning, Good morning, isn't a lovely day. Good morning, good morning to you" to her every morning, usually more than once!!!

Today I nearly cracked it. Syd clambered into my hands gazing at me expectantly and I sang a mini marathon of songs. Each time I thought we had had enough I tried to put him down but he leaned in harder. On I sang expecting him to get bored and wriggle away but he closed his eyes and all but went to sleep. He'd only been up for an hour!

When Bumble was little (hahaha see what I did there? Cuz she’s SOOOOO Big now!) I would sing This Old Man while I skritched her. She made the cutest little peeps. Then I stopped for some reason, and one day I realized the peeping had stopped too. I didn’t connect them until one day I randomly sang it to her while skritching and! Peep! Peep! I find that she often “sings along” with me so I sing to her all the time.

And speaking of singing to the dog....ahahahahaha I was just singing an original composition about making a peenie-butter sammich to my dog. And thinking it’s a good thing that Alexa doesn’t actually record everything we say.

I do to my cockatoo---at least I did, for ages! (She now accepts other music too at bedtime). The historic songs (in order) were as follows:

"Herman the Worm"
"The Cat Came Back"
and "I know an Old Lady"
All of which are available on Youtube via the Learning Station...and all of which, are painful lol!
