odd dilemma...help?

Max our B&G lives on his perch and not in a cage.

we have a surface for the newspapers to catch droppings.

But max started climbing down to the newpapers and making a mess on his feet and tailfeathers by walking on the paper.


So my damned partner of (twenty-five long years) has a guy weld up a galvanized steel diamond mesh contraption as a barrier to the paper.
it looks sort of okay but I am absolutely concerned about the steel mesh material, the welds and the freaking spray paint used as a finish.

this guy is dumber than dirt and I cant convince him otherwise.
is anyone out there is fluent in Brasilian Portuguese that can maybe explain why this might not be a good idea?

Galvanized is straight up toxic for a parrot

very simply you say "no" then make him leave if he doesn't want to use stainless steel, there's no other option

Likely using galvanized expanded wire (has openings) and not solid galvanized diamond plate.

Sorry, but I am do not speak: Brasilian Portuguese. But, I have always found that keep it very simple in dealing with us guys helps! Ask your friends if they have mouse or rat poison. Assure that the word 'Poison' is clearly seen on the container. This will provide a hard cold statement!

As you know, galvanized surfaces are in fact Zinc coated, which is Classified as a Toxic Heavy Metal. His Friend, if not wearing a forced air venting welding shield has likely been breathing Zinc fumes. Not deadly in and of that one event, but over time, it will build-up.
