Obsessive human grooming

My Gcc is beginning to freak me out. She has developed a need to 'groom me'. And by groom I don't mean play with my hair.

If I have sunburn or my cuticles are peeling, she pulls the skin off. Scratches? She's pulling the scab off. And recently I had an issue with allergies and was congested. My nose got dry and cracked from the tissues, and she had become obsessive about getting rid of the dead skin. Normally if I'm reading she relaxes on my chest on the bed and goes to sleep. Now she just wants to groom my face and fingers. She's not biting or getting frustrated until I push her away.

I've pushed her away, put her back in her cage, and tried toys as distraction. No go.

Is this normal? How do I get her to stop? I'm afraid she will get sick somehow.

I have a lone freckle kind of on my shoulder/neck area, that my GCC Berry used to OBSESS over. She'd pull back my shirt to get to it and dig at it. I'd move her and tell her to stop and it's almost like she yelled at me saying "Stop it! Let me get it!"

Sounds like my Tango. That's just how some conures are. I think your GCC is just making sure your hygiene is up to par so you don't get sick and die...it's their way of showing you they love you.

My quaker has been working on a callous on my hand (I was stung by a wasp there many years ago). The odd thing is I think she's actually improving it.

Tiki does the same stuff. She tries to remove my freckles if a have a hair out of place she'll trim it off for me. She's so very gentle about my cuticles or a hangnail (never hurts, ever - in a way i almost appreciate it). She's usually pretty good about letting me know that my nails are just too long for her liking by biting them. That's my only issue with it. I'll trim my nails or file them and she still goes after them. (Yes they are painted frequently - never goes after anything but the tips)

I wonder...they say cats bring you dead or semi-dead animals because they think you're a crappy cat that can't feed itself...i wonder if Tiki thinks "huh, that's an awful crappy pin feather there. oh you can't get it obviously! i'll just take care of it for you like you do for my head, no worries, just let me try and rip the whole thing off for you. oh that hurt, sucks to be you huh"

LMHO here. I thought cats were presenting gifts and honouring their owners LOL. Good job dont have one then!

Hahaha, I hope that's the real reason! Everything I've ever heard was about your cat thinking you suck as a cat. Haha, I'll stick to birds, no cats here!
