Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
I got a bag of oat groats, to add to Salty's chop when a given batch turns out too watery. Not cooked. I added about 1/2 teaspoon to 2 heaping tablespoons of chop. It absorbed the water well. But I cant find much about serving these to birds. So... uncooked OK? Cooked OK too or it doesn't matter? Or only cooked?
As a point of reference, Salty seems to like them un-cooked, as a treat, when he is in a patient mood, because he removes the hull .

I think we mean the same thing for me they are Porridge Oats/Rolled Oats and they are fine uncooked. I add to chop too for the same reason.

Oats are fine cooked or uncooked. The little green guy here was just chowing down on some as part of his breakfast this morning. His were cooked though. Couldn't not give the bird a hot breakfast:rolleyes:

Whether you're talking about rolled oats or actual oat groats, both are fine either raw or cooked. Groats are just the hulled oats not rolled out. They have them in a lot of small bird seed mixes. I know they are in my budgies' seed mix.

I have not seen Oat Groats in shops here but they are probably available. The rolled oats are what I use raw and cooked.

The oat groats (like in the package above) is one thing the store gave me in my new bird package when I got Chip.

Oh and they remind me of Scotland for some reason. I have to go back again, soon; I love the place.
