I just noticed it this morning. It is definitely toe tapping. I saw her doing it in her cage, and she was also doing it when I moved her to her tree. I do not feed her anything colored or give her any vitamins. I have Zupreem all natural pellets that I give her only a few times a month. 99% of the time she gets fresh fruit and veggies. I also give her a hard boiled egg with the shell once a week. I'm going crazy trying to figure out what is causing the tapping.

Perhaps a vet visit may be in need. If her diet is good, then I would rule that out. I googled some other reasons for toe tapping and I got:

"Other noted causes of Toe Tapping & Wing Flipping are fortified foods, preservatives, colours, additives, metal toxicity, pesticides, chemicals, calcium deficiency & food allergies."

Definitely worth getting her checked out. :(

Yea...I guess maybe I should take her. I just took her to the vet in July before we took her on vacation and they did a full blood panel and gram stain and everything was fine!

She could have developed a food allergy (can happen when they have too much of the same thing) or could have a more serious problem like metal toxicity. I hope its nothing too serious though !

You might try different pellets.... Roudybush Rice Diet, Totally Organic Pellets, Harrison's...

As mentioned, it could be an allergy to a food. Was she given something new recently? You might have to do an elimination diet... feed her very basic foods and slowly start adding other foods into the diet.

Does she get sprouted seeds? Grains? Legumes?

Hm...I can't think of anything new that I have given her. I do not give her sprouts as often as I should, but she does get a serving of cooked legumes everyday.

Which legumes is she eating?

You may want to start keeping a log of what she eats and when the behavior occurs to see if it might be diet related.

I usually buy the package of 16 different beans and make them for her. (Boil them, etc, never raw)

You may want to look into healthier legumes then. Stop feeding the 16 bean soup and instead feed adzuki, lentils, peas, garbanzo/chickpeas, and mung. These can be fed cooked or sprouted.

You may also include healthy grains such as quinoa, millet, buckwheat, amaranth, whole oats, hulless barley, spelt or kamut, teff, brown rice and wild rice. These can also be fed sprouted or cooked.

One part legume to two parts grains can make a 'complete' protein, although quinoa is pretty healthy on its own!

I've heard it can take up to 6 months to clear the system, so you may not see any immediate changes... especially if its diet related and we haven't pinpointed the issue.

Hopefully though, we can figure it out!

Maybe it's all associated with the behaviour in your other thread.

Personally I can't see that any of the foods offered are to blame. However i would never feed my birds any cooked foods that are not breeding. It is best to give an eclectus a huge variety of different foods, including approx a table spoon of a good quality small parrot seed. Stay away from dried fruits, some birds are sensitive to them.

You could try giving her some calcium either in powered or liquid form. She maybe just lacking in some minerals.???
