Bill, Berta was gorgeous. What a long time you two had together, filled with love.
I'm so sorry that it made you sad, thank you for sharing her with us.

This is our Canary winged parrot (Brotogeris) Max, who was ship's mascot for 6 years. He was the sweetest, most people friendly parrot I have ever had the pleasure to know. Max picked me out of whole tank full of his brethren, jumped on my hand and wolf whistled in my face. Who could resist? Max not a day goes by that your family does not miss you, still.

I love this picture, what a beautiful boy Max was. For beings so small they sure leave a huge footprint in our hearts.

I foresee a blockbuster month of remembrances and sweet memories! Thanks for an exquisite theme, Terry!!

This was the first time Eddie was outside, well in our home. (He did go out with past owner) He loved flying outside, getting tired very quickly yet having so much fun. (A picture of him flying was posted in the last contest)

Jim

Jim, I actually got tears in my eyes.

This will indeed be an emotional month for sure.

This month is going to be a real intense one... already is, and it's only Day One. I will be sure to buy the Missus a big box of PUFFS ULTRA SOFT first thing tomorrow.
Meanwhile, I've got my work cut out for me, with a mountain of photos dating back to 1984 to wade through! Good one, Terry, it actually really sounds like fun. I may even need a few of those danged old Puffs myself.

I love the overload of Sunny's first times, I have no idea how you even get a bird to sit on a scale with no perch at all. lol

Love all the entries so far. I actually have a little album myself that I plan on posting just for fun. I'm still unsure what my official entry will be. So many pictures to go through. I'm not sure if I will post Jacob's cutest baby picture or find something of my first pet, Spike the cockatiel.

No official entry here yet, just sharing memories of my cockatiel named Shadow, this is a bit of a long one. It will be in 2 posts as I have a 10 image limit.

Shadow the cockatiel

He was part of a clutch of 3 eggs. Unfortunately the parents abandoned the eggs 1 week prior to hatching. We did not have an incubator at the time but we did have a friend with a pair of love birds. We gave the eggs to the pair of love birds and they took care of them as if they were their own. The first egg hatched but the love birds killed it when they realized it wasn't one of theirs. We tried to keep a close eye for the second egg but didn't notice it in time and that bird was also killed for the same reason. Now we were on full time awareness with little to no sleep. The third egg hatched and we saved the little baby in time.

We named him Shadow and he was born August 11th 2003. He was hand raised from day one and was the size of a thumb when he hatched. Feeding him was a challenge but we used a tiny syringe to get some formula in him feeding him every hour for 24 hours to gradually needing feedings less often as he grew, this resulted in little to no sleep but this little guy was worth it. Here he is at 10 days old. He was kept in a small heated tank.

Shadow became such a wonderful pet, you could do anything with him, from holding him on his back to petting him anywhere and he was cool with it. Here he is at 1 month old.
Qtkfyo9.jpg

Here is Shadow at 5 months old, still on formula but learning to perch and eat on his own, his face was full of formula as he was a messy eater.

Here he is at 6 weeks old, now perching like a pro.

Here are his parents, Spike the father on the left and Buddy Girl the mother on the right. Buddy was usually a good mother but it was due to Spike the dead beat dad that attacked her that made her abandon the eggs.
fKc6IMZ.jpg

Shadow now at 4 months old. His name really did suit him as he would follow me around the house like he was my shadow, while singing the whole time. He was always so happy and cheery. He loved singing to my big toe as it was the same size as his head. This bird just loved me so much and if I was around, he was always at my feet singing happily. He could always cheer me up no matter how bad my day was.

Here is Shadow at 1 year old hanging out with his parents, even though they abandoned him as an egg, they became friends. Shadow on the left, Spike the father in the middle and Buddy Girl the mother on the right.

Shadow at 1 and a half years old chewing the (fake) flower centerpiece on the kitchen table. He was always finding things to chew and have fun with.

Here he is at 3 years old. I grew up with him in my childhood and I loved him so very much. He loved me just as much and was always by my side no matter what, always singing and always just so happy to see me. I was his favorite person and he made it obvious. He was so cuddly and loved getting head scratches.

At 4 years old Shadow had babies of his own with a female named Tico. Here are the babies at 6 days old.

Here are Shadows babies at about 2 weeks old.

We had to give away Buddy Girl as we couldn't have anymore females around as we were no longer breeding cockatiels, she went to a good home that my mother kept contact with. Spike (left) and Shadow (right) became best friends. Shadow is 4 years old here.

Here is Shadow (left) and Spike (right) once again, they were singing to each other, Shadow was 6 years old here.

Unfortunately Shadow passed away at the age of 8 years old on September 12th 2011. Losing him was the hardest loss I ever had to deal with in my life as he was my first loss and such a beloved pet and companion. Those feelings of hurt slowly turned into happy memories of such an amazing animal. I am glad to have had 8 years with him even though his time was cut short due to unknown reasons. He was fine 1 day and the next morning he was dying. He died in my arms, it was so hard on me but I am glad he didn't die alone but got to die in the arms of his favorite person. I miss him dearly and will never forget him, may he rest in peace. My father got me this plushy to always remember him by. I love you my little Shadow, you will always have a place in my heart. August 11th 2003 - September 12th 2011

No such thing as a Sunny "overload," Hannah! He is an amazing bird!

Loved the photo spread of Shadow. What a beautiful bird, a pity he passed so young.
