Notification feature!

This site really could use a notification or alert feature so that we can better communicate with one another.

I just joined another avian site two weeks ago, and I am having a blast. Why? Because I am alerted to when somebody replies to my response or post, and therefore I can respond back to them.

I don't know what it is about this site but whenever I respond to a reply, my response is ignored. I have tried direct response, quoting response and the results are the same.

For example I posted a thread on this site and got about four responses. I posted the same thread on the other site and got about four pages of responses, which I could keep flowing because I was notified of their replies.

I honestly can not see how to exchange ideas if the conversation is dropped after only ONE response. If it weren't for Scott (thank you!) most of my posts would be one hit wonders.

Or ****, maybe I am being ignored, which if true the other site might be a better fit.

Another question. Why can't new members exchange PM's with other members? It says we have to post a certain number of threads but doesn't say the number. It kind of makes a new member feel like the stepchild.

The 20 post minimum is to keep spammers from spamming everyone's inbox before a Mod can catch them.
Just because someone doesn't reply to your post, it doesn't mean they are ignoring you...may just mean they have nothing to contribute

20 post's are the minimum before PM's are allowed. I don't know the reason for this.

For myself I don't follow the Cockatoo thread at all and I have no Budgies.
I read about Budgies but don't have much that I can say without direct experience with them.

I would really love to engage guys, but I doubt you will see my response. We have to "subscribed " to the same post to keep a conversation going?

But good point made about what kind of bird it has to be. Seems like Grey's are the top birds around here.

My posts were completely neutral, meaning a owner of ANY kind of bird could chime in.

I did see you, and replied. The Active Topic section is where I spend most of my time as that shows all the current threads, regardless of which forum they are posted in.

I’m on Tapatalk and I look through “unread” and “participated.” I never sort by forum. In theory I should see all of your posts. But since my whole bird experience is with my one Parrotlet, who’s been with me less than a year, I might not have anything to add. Also I’m on Tapatalk beta release so sometimes it’s glitchy.

You sound angry that you haven’t been engaged as expected.

I also use the Active Topics button so I would have been able to see all of your posts. I have two budgies so if you asked any questions about budgie care I would be glad to help. I’m not an experienced bird owner though, so I might not have that much to say. This forum is a wonderful community.

Eagle, What are you really after here with this post? This is not a particularly healthy or helpful way to achieve...whatever it is you’re trying to accomplish.

A quick look through threads you’ve startef shows you’ve got decent participation, 4-11 replies per thread with over 200 views per thread. And as pointed out, 90+ likes.

I’m sorry if you feel like you’re being ignored. But the stats really prove otherwise, so the point of this thread is truly lost on me. Yes previously mentioned, youve got to keep in mind what you are contributing. Many forums like this tend to focus on larger birds. Not nearly as much chatter about budgies. Cockatoos more so, but still not as popular. I personally view this forum through the “active topics” view, but the sub forum is listed also, and if it’s in a sub forum and/or topic I just have no interest in, I either simply don’t look at the thread, or do a quick once over but don’t respond because I have nothing to contribute.

On this forum, greys aren’t the primary bird. I’d put that somewhere equally between conures, eclectus, macaws, grey, and amazons.

I don’t think that this forum is large-bird centered. This forum is incredibly diverse in terms of the species owned. For example, conures seem to be very well represented on this forum, while cockatoos aren’t nearly as talked about. I wish more budgie, lovebird, and parrotlet owners would join. The tiny ones need attention too! I also feel like there are quite a few cockatiel owners here, while there aren’t many caique, ringneck, or quaker owners. I wouldn’t say that greys are the top bird at all; I was thinking something more like eclectus or conures.

We are certainly diverse, there’s no disputing this. But A quick look at the number of threads within the sub forums show the larger birds very clearly have the participation advantage. You note yourself you with more parrotlet/lovebird/budgie owners would participate. Budgies are actually well repd with 30k threads, which is far from the 10k for cockatiels and other smaller birds. I guess this shouldn’t be that much of a surprise given their ubiquitous nature.

I will cop in my head conures are lumped in with larger birds given proximity to macaws.

Unfortunately we've had spammers parachute in between mod visits and litter the forum and PM boxes with spam. We go to great lengths to keep our neighborhood "clean," hence the 20 post minimum.

Thankfully there are sufficient bird forums to offer the consumer a choice of the most pleasing and interactive experiences possible.

Unfortunately we've had spammers parachute in between mod visits and litter the forum and PM boxes with spam. We go to great lengths to keep our neighborhood "clean," hence the 20 post minimum.

Thankfully there are sufficient bird forums to offer the consumer a choice of the most pleasing and interactive experiences possible.

I would say that if someone takes the time to write a thoughtful post and only gets about four replies, than yes, it is disappointing. And it is post after post.

But it is even stranger than no one gets back to somebody replying to their response,(Or at least not me). I have been on many sites, most of them opinion sites, and have never experience that before.

It's like you guys all know one another from way back when and you are not taking the chance to get to know anybody new.

It got your attention, didn't it? What am I after?? Some feedback would be nice. And also when I am having trouble navigating this site, some help from management would be appreciated. My request for help, go over like my posts seem to, ( a lead balloon).

I have TWO large birds. You think the other site is full of cockatoo owners? My posts could be about any bird and the problems that arise when owning one.
