Hi! I recently got this new birdie as a gift from my parents. For the life of me, I donā€™t know what kind of bird he is. So, I donā€™t know what to feed him, which is SUPER important. If someone has any idea what kind of bird he is, PLEASE, let me know! Heā€™s very hyper and loud. A lot louder than my cockatiels COMBINED, thatā€™s for sure. Heā€™s tiny! So Iā€™m not sure what he is!!!

Sure! Iā€™m so sorry haha. He doesnā€™t like me getting too close or getting him out of the cage just yet. Let me know if these work.

My best guess would be an African love bird, there are many types, some with these same colors.

It kind of looks built like a conure but the colors just don't match up.

Best of luck finding out what this parrot is. :)

1. Each lovebird is African ;):D
2. There are 9 species of lovies and none has yellow head:confused: (maybe mutation but I'd known if that would be a mutation...)

Thank you, now photos are better :) This is the rare time when I really have problem with saying not just species but also type of parrot:confused: I don't see the tail, does it long or short? That always helps in rejecting wrong types

His tail is short! His wings are also very small. And with his eyes, you can see his pupil expanding and shrinking very easily, so his eye color is almost a walnut brown.

What ever kind he is, make sure you feed him. Pretty sure your cockateil food will suffice until we can narrow things down for you.

Haha thanks for correcting me, I was trying to google it and the one that looked close to this one was labeled as an African love bird. Now I just feel silly. Oh well, doesn't hurt to try to help out now does it? :p

Seeing the tail would help a lot and also maybe a picture beside something that shows how big the bird really is. I've seen so many parrots as my mom had a pet store that specialized in parrots and I just can't tell what this one is.

Ok! I will try to use something to compare him with. Hopefully he doesnā€™t freak out too much!

How big is this bird? Larger or smaller than your cockatiel?

Iā€™d guess lovebird but you may also want to look into grass parakeet species. They have some pretty rare to see in the pet trade species.

I have the same. I also can say "I've seen so many parrots" but from other reasons - I sometimes travel to see parrot species which I hadn't seen before. Normally I don't have any problems with recognising them but now, I don't really have ideas... He's tiny but how tiny? Bigger or smaller than budgie? There's always is an option of hybrid...
Coming back to lovie - also the beak is other than have lovies... When I don't know the species I always look on things like beak, tail...

Not grass parrots - definitely not this type of beak.. and they have LONG tail

Another thing thatā€™s really throwing me is beak and feet donā€™t appear to match. Usually, parrots either have a light beak and light feet or a dark beak and dark feet. It appears this bird has a light beak and dark feet. Is that just lighting in the photos?

Okay. Here is a picture of him compared to a deodorant stick. Roughly the same sizeā€“he wasnā€™t very fond of being compared to it.

Heā€™s a lot smaller than my cockatiel. Maybe by a couple of inches. And nope, he has a light beak and dark feet. My parents told me he was four months. I have no idea where they got him from lol

thank you, I see he has long tail! ;)

Did they say what he was sold to them as?

I found an interesting possibility- tui parakeet. They are part of the brotogeris family. To me this guy looks a lot like a teeny tiny amazon. These birds are from the same range. Sooooo maybe this is possible getting warmer?

I was looking on this species:D but they have smaller quantity o yellow:( I looked on all Brotogeris species and none suits:( In the past I was reading an article about 'em and also they have other shape of beak (their beaks are simillar to lories & lorikeets) But in this case when I really don't know the type I looked all Brotogeris few times... Also I was looking on mountain parakeets (it was my 1st thought after the last photo; not genus Brotogeris but Psilopsiogon) but these seem to have too little yellow again....

I was thinking the same thing. My mom said they told her it was a yellow headed parrot, but I keep guessing itā€™s a hybrid. So maybe we are right?

The yellow headed parrot is another name of yellow headed amazon so in 100% can't be this species...
