Not producing much dandar ?

Shelby has not been a feather puller, but the last several months she gets really rough them. A lot of them are spilt on the ends. Most of them are around her neck and belly.

I noticed yesterday that she's not producing much powder.

Are her vitamins low ?

Needing more showers ?
In the winters, I don't give her a shower as much, about once a month.

Agree, qualified vet evaluation and blood panels would be most helpful. So many variables to find possible causes.

Ok, I'll make a appointment. I tried a web search about the powder but not much information. Anyone have luck ?

A healthy cockatoo should be producing it. That is why their beaks are white-ish grey and not shiny black. If a beak is shiny, that is a bad sign because it means that the bird isn't preening and/or producing enough powder to cover it.
You might try looking up "powder down".
Either way, smart to take your bird to the vet. What makes you think powder is lower than in the past?

When I got one of my moluccans, she didn't produce that much dander. She was plucking, but I don't know what was cause and effect. She was on a pure seed diet and was very stressed.

Today she doesn't pluck anymore and her dander is back to normal levels.

I wish I could tell you, what I did, other than change her environment and diet.

Maybe check if she gets the vitamins and minerals she needs? This is best checked by a vet.
