Wow I see some posts with over 100 readers but only 5 posts back what's up with that?

Not every member has something to contribute in writing. A lot will read a thread because it is interesting or germane to their problem.

What Al said. I read most threads but many I don't feel I have a helpful contribution for and don't post.

Don't forget also anyone online can read your thread and it will count as a view. Only registered members can comment. Lots of "lurkers" on here reading about parrots but not ready to contribute.

I was a lurker for quite a while and as a newish part of a flock have little to offer. However I read nearly everything, learn and then keep quiet. It's only when I put what I have learned into practice and find it works that I feel able to impart my limited knowledge to those even newer than me.

I don't have a bird yet. I spend hours a day reading threads here in preparation. I'm basically 7? years behind if you want to look at it a different way. :)

Thought it was quality not quantity? You will also possibly see that other members have thanked the posts instead of repeating themselves.

A lot of rubbish is still .......

Little confused why this was posted here?

Yup, that's true! Much of it has to do with a Title that does little to define what the true Subject may in fact be. Then there is the text that is lacking any useful information to address the Title, nor the listed additional problem(s) etc, etc, etc... Like what is one to do, guess at an answer and pray that it comes somewhere close and may be useful.

Or, that topic has been covered several times in the last couple of hours, to days and the Threads are still active.

But, one of the Biggest Reasons: One spends extensive time addressing a Thread, many others add to the Thread providing solid, usable information and the OP never Post's a single additional response not even a simple Thank-You!

No one gets paid to provide the responses. Its not like it is a requirement of membership. And, in addition, when one provides the same useful information to the same basic question, thirty times, there is a concern that the membership, as a whole, will think of it as of little importance, same-o same-o. Hence, there are Threads that have several thousand Posts and those with maybe only one! The difference, you tell me, please!

This forum, just like my coffee snob forums, aren't always on the "daily rounds" for people. If I have a problem, I come here to do some research. If I have some spare time I may read thru a bit. But mostly this is a resource, and not a chat room.

Yes I suppose it is one way of looking at it but if everyone just does that there 'aint gonna be many replies are there? IMO if you take then please give something back even if you can only manage a 'thank you'?

At least a thanks from the OP tells us that they have got an answer or result.

Or just appreciate the time and effort to reply. :)

Good heavens, we're like a coffee snob forum?! I realize parrots are a fringe avocation, but we strive to cater to all aspects, in sickness, in health, and have a bit of fun with the Game Room and Off Topic forums.

Robust conversation often adds content or moves the thread in a meaningful direction with new discovery. That is why future members can rely on a rich heritage of information in time of need via the search engine.

I often read without replying. Sometimes it's my new-parront status -- no useful input. Sometimes it's because I've nothing to add but a smiley. I'm also not sure of the etiquette here and don't want to be rude and say "lmao" or "wow neat" and nothing else.
But I couldn't read and not post in *this* thread, because . . . that's what it's about.

I don't always have anything to add either, since I'm relatively new. I do post ad nauseam about how much I love Bumble, but that's mostly for my benefit LOL. And I've been around long enough that if I'm the first person to happen on a thread about biting, I can type "See Birdman666's sticky" as well as anyone who's been here forever. But I have read lots and lots and lots of the threads to educate myself.
