Pickles is somewhere between 18 months and ?. She was a nasty little thing when we first got her but is now a loving sweet kissy little bird (we have had her for over a year). The things I am worried about are:

1. Her noise level. She is a VERY quite bird. I mean, I had a budgie as a kid and he was 100X noisier. Pickles' normal call is a really quiet whispy "peep". If the flock get going her peeps do get louder. If she does something that she is really proud of she will chatter a bit but not much.

2. She is the least playful bird I have ever met. We have tried all sorts of cage and foot toys and no go. She will side foot wrestle once in awhile, but then stops. She definitely loves us as she flies around the house after us and wants to be with us at all times.

All this being said, I could really care less if she is "normal" or not, she is ours (or we are hers), but I am curious. Thanks in advance!

My GCC's have been both ways, Berry was very quiet for a long while, didn't really play, wasn't very social, but then she'd be velcro bird for a few months, chew up everything I gave her, fly around, then back to being totally independent.

The two I have now are very quiet. They get going when the others do, mostly in the morning and evening but other than that I don't hear anything from them besides some little peeps. They haven't really played with toys at all, but I take into account that they are/were set up as breeders and may not have had toys for a long time. They've started to preen some cotton yarn, but don't play with any of the wood toys I have given them, and only a little bit of the paper.

It seems in my opinion that GCC's are either or, they're either very playful, or not at all. Yours is pretty young so I think she needs to be shown how to play a little more. Try foraging toys, start with paper and soft wood. I know my birds have pretty much always enjoyed ripping and tearing paper that I'm holding, so try it with a piece of newspaper or construction paper, something about the noise I think they like!

Try to teach her some appropriate calls, like a whistle when you're coming into the room, or when you're bringing her food or coming to get her, so that she can have something personal with you!
