Baby B&G Macaw-3+ months old
She is down to 1 feeding a day and doing great eating on her own, she likes to spend a lot of her time on top of her cage, so I put a folded towel towards the back on top of the cage to set her bowls on so that while she is up there she has a bowl of pellets and another of water.
Lastnight I went over to hold her for awhile and as usual she started to run towards me she was excited about being held.
Then I noticed she stopped halfway, she had been chewing on the corner of the towel I am guessing and it became kind of frayed. She had threads from it wrapped very tightly all around her toes and foot.
I took her and the towel to my bed and set her down and got a pair of fingernail clippers to cut it off of her.
She sat perfectly still like a statue the entire time and let me cut them slowly and carefully, making sure not to accidently clip her skin.
It's paper towels for her on out, that could have ended badly for her foot if I hadn't found it as quickly as I did.
When she was smaller and I kept her in a home made brooder I always used paper towels on the floor, but kept a baby blanket in there also, the towel on the cage top was just to catch water and food in case she knocked the dishes over, but I guess she felt like it needed some fringe'y edges....not a good idea.
