Hello everyone, thank you for letting me join! I'm new to the bird world, having just purchased my first feathered friend. I currently own, 1 dog, 1 cat, 3 rats, and now my beautiful Green Cheek Conure, Conlan.
I got Conlan from a small family owned exotics store as there are no breeders in my area. The store passed on my cleanliness check, all animals were healthy and alert, and the staff were knowledgeable about the birds. I'm personally not a pet store person, preferring breeders or adoption, but when I met Conlan I was taken away.
When I first walked up to the huge cage he was housed in, his first reaction was to come right on over and bob his head. At the associates go ahead I held up my finger which he gently played with and chatted to me. As I walked around looking at a few others he followed me in the cage. Though he was too nervous to step up onto my hand, as he wasn't regularly handled, he loved playing gently with my finger and tugging my sleeve. Total sweety.
After my family and I discussed getting a bird, and narrowing it down to 2 types(which we did over a few months of research) we had finally found our guy and he became ours. As I own rats, who are my other babies, we are already established with an exotic vet, who frequently sees birds and reptiles.
Thank you all for allowing me to join and continue to learn!
