Princess Rome- Moluccan Cockatoo (18yrs old), Rosie - Galah/Rose Breasted Cockatoo (2yr old)
Hello everyone! I am a proud new parrot owner and am thrilled to find this site:). I have owned cockateils and an umbrella cockatoo in the past, unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control I had to give them up. Even though that was years and years ago it is still a hard thing to think about. In present time I have been missing having a large bird about the house. I had not planned on getting a new bird this soon. I had grandeur plans of outdoor aviaries and free flying, however an opportunity presented itself that I could not pass up. I'm living in the city still and wont move to the country for another few years. I'm a vet tech and as consequence get most of my family that way. I was working at the right place at the right time and met the right people. I originally had my heart set on getting a grey when the time was right, I absolutely love greys. I didn't plan on getting another cockatoo, mostly because of how draining they can be - give them an inch and they don't want a mile they want the whole continent . However the family I met was very loving and due to their circumstances they needed to re-home their Moluccan Cockatoo. I went and met her and fell in love. It is a confirmed female, originally thought to be a male until she layed an egg. Her name is Romeo, I've been thinking about changing it, not sure if I should. She is 16 yrs old, I am her 3rd home, and her previous home had her for 14 yrs. She has a fantastic personality and is a pretty decent talker. Due to the recent stresses in her previous home she started to destroy her chest feathers. I'm hoping to be able to correct this with lots of distraction and time. I've only had her for about 3 weeks now and shes been adjusting pretty well. Yesterday was the first day, since shes been here, that she started playing with her toys. Shes eating well, she was on zupreem and seed mixed in. I have taken her off of seed completely for a solid week and she seems to be doing fine. I have of course been supplementing the zupreem with lots of veggies and fruit. She still gets some seed, but only during our training sessions. I still cant belive I have been given such a wonderful gift and am very thankful for my new family member. Sorry I don't have any pics uploaded yet but their coming soon, promise.

Moluccans seem to have a history of many homes. They are the "big guys" most people would not know how to handle. It sounds like you are such a wonderful person for this bird. You are right in they need so much attention and play time.
My hat is off to you and thank you for joining us. If you go to the technical forum you will find directions for uploading photos here.

Welcome to our forum! It sounds like Romeo has found a wonderful new home. We do look forward to seeing pictures. :)
