Hi everyone,
Some one you may know that I'm getting my baby RB2 in a few weeks and preparation has started waaay before. I'm pretty much set on all aspects like cages, food etc but I'm still struggling on toys and enrichment. The toys for sale here are pretty expensive and knowing the rate cockatoos destroy things, it's gonna be a bit of a problem. My breeder recommended that i use cardboard and paper towel rolls and thread them together. I was wonderingly if any one else had other ideas on DIY toys for cockatoos?

Thanks;)

I thread cardboard through the cage wire, I tie knots in rope and hang them from the cage, I go to the dollar store and find plastic things they can play with (plastic straws, some cleaning/cooking supplies, etc), I go to craft stores and get the wooden bases for making wooden wreaths (the kind that you weave ribbons into, not the kind that have greenery on them), I buy tissue paper (for packing presents) and stuff it into cardboard tubes (toilet paper, paper towels, and also the tubes you roll coins in which they have in big packs at the dollar store), I take dollar store dog toys made of thick rope and a ball and hang those from the cage, basically I look at everything I see and think "could this be a safe toy?" and then go from there! This combined with a few wooden bird toys makes for a cage FULL of toys that I can constantly rotate.

Thanks for the ideas! I'll definitely use some them. :D
Also, is sisal rope safe for birds to use, I hear that most of the time it's tough and indestructible but a friends bird once caught his foot in a frayed end. Is it still ok to use?

Just a btw my friend's RB2 was given plastic straws and loved them but I discovered one stop over that he was actually eating it, not good. Paper ones Ok though :).

Have fun filling that cage.
