Hi every one. I'm from the great CANADIAN white north. (WINTER)
My cockatoo (umbrella cockatoo) is in a nice warm bird room, with all the bells and whistle.
She's a very happy bird and eats well. Lately I've notice that her feathers are getting scruffy. Her diet has not been changed, nor her water, every thing is as it was before the feathers got scruffy. She is 18 years old,I got her at 3 months of age (original owner) she is just a lovely bird, very affectionate, never bites and is always ready to let you rub her back. Her vocabulary is quite large, I won't go into details, just to say she talks a lot.

Does any one have any thoughts on why this is happening? She gets her bath regularly, in very pure and soft water, we live in the country side, our water is from a well and treated through multiple purifying equipment.
ANY ONE ???

What you mean by scruffy? Any pictures to show?

She might be starting a molt. Our bare eyed has finished losing feathers, but is still getting pins in. Does she have a kinda all over ruffled, messy look? Does she look kinda rumpled or are specific feather ends looking like they are being chewed?

Welcome to the forum! Post some pics when you get a chance, there are quite a few Too lovers on here and we always enjoy seeing pics of everyone's babies!

A big THANKS to all who replied ! I will try and take a few photos and post them as soon as possible. For jenphilly, yes to all of your suggestions. What is MOLT

.
Molting is when she gradually loses all of her feathers, and replaces them with new ones.
You will have noticed this happening quite a few times in 18 years :p
