After my fiance's Green Cheek passed away abiut 3 weeks ago I picked up a 2 year old Cherry Head/Red Masked Conure for her a few days ago. When he/her (not sure of the sex but his name is Ruben) is in the cage he will let me pick him up and play with him but wants Nina (my fiance'). When Nina has him he will bite me everytime I try to get him off her. Even when Nina tries to get him off her back/shoulder he will bite her. Its like he will not allow us to take him off her. I'm glad he like her but this seems a little insane. We both have been around birds before and owned conures and cockatiels but never had this problem. Does any one know how to break him of the biting while getting him off us? Thanks!

That sounds exactly like our experiences living with birds. We both have bird experience and are loving and caring toward them but they usually seem to favor me over him. I really don't know how to stop this kind of behavior entirely but there are things you can do to lessen it. The biggest thing is to not reward it. When she is holding him and he tries to bite you, try a time out. Don't make a huge reaction about it, just simply put him back in or on his cage for a few minutes and then try again. You want him to learn that that kind of behavior isn't okay. Birds are smart, he should figure it out pretty quickly that he can't be mean towards you.

Ok we'll try that. The weird thing is, I'm self employed and been home all day everyday this week with him. So its not like he spends more time with her. I've held/played and talked to him almost non stop every day since we got him Monday. Even built him a nice BIG cage with tons of toys yesterday. We'll try the time out thing and see how it goes and I'll keep you updated on our progress. Thanks!

Just a little update. Alot of work and he will now "sometimes" step off her to me. Still runs and tries to bite most of the time but not always. Actually even ran from her once last night when he was on me!
