Hi

I have very recently adopted a 3yr old Timneh African Grey. Her name is Ava.

And she BITES, okay given I've only had her for 2 days and her previous owner is a man.
I seriously need help in taming her to be mine. I have patience and a high pain threshold but a lady can really only take so much.

We are a family of 5, 3 males and 2 females. Along with 2 dogs and a cat. everyone has agreed to leave Ava alone and only I have interaction with her.

Any tips, tricks, helpfull advice and questions are welcome.

Hi Angie, and welcome to the forum. :)

We have lots of very knowledgable grey owners here, and I'm sure you will get some great advice with your new baby. :)

Welcome to the forums!! Now to your issue. The first thing I would suggest is to give Ava plenty more time to adjust. it could take months before she decides to trust you, if she comes around at all. As you stated, her previous owner was a man, and that might be where her comfort level remains. When you try to interact with her, do not attempt to force her out of the cage; if she chooses to step up for you then your off to a good start, if not just keep talking to her and let her do it on her own time. Could also try to see if she is willing to step up on to a stick, if so bring her out that way and sit her on your leg in order to spend time and try to build trust. OR ... you could always try to bribe her with treats :D it has worked for me in the past lol. Just be patient, keep talking sweet to her, and build a bond. That is all I would suggest to start with. Keep us updated and good luck!!
