Rio- Alexandrine parrot
Hello everyone,
I am new to these forums!! I do not have. Parrot yet, but I am soon hoping to get an alexandrine once my sister moves out with her cat:rolleyes: from what I have heard they are beautiful and gentle creatures and aren't exactly Velcro birds, as I do have school during the week. But any advice would be perefectly. Thankyou in advance,

Hello Tay and welcome! I have an Alexandrine and he is a fantastic bird:) He speaks clearly and can definitely amuse himself when I am not with him. He is not a cuddler, but is very sweet and not very loud. I am glad you joined us!

Welcome to the forum!!! :)

Leave the TV or radio on for him/her when your gone to class. Plus plenty of chew toys to play with. :)

Thankyou everyone who replied!! And thanks for all your help. I feel a bit better now knowing he will be O.K. Whilst I'm gone:)

I've got a pair of Alexes (Barney and Madge: the Beaks) and they're great! They're highly intelligent and easy to trick-train, if that's what you'd like to do. They love to chew things and that's one easy way of keeping them busy: just keep them well-supplied with disposable chewy toys and they'll be fine! Above all, though, I think the green of an Alexandrine Parakeet is the most beautiful of all colours: they positively glow and the contrast of the black/pink ring (which my Barney doesn't have yet) just sets off the green to perfection. I don't think there's a more attractive bird (IMHO, of course). :)

I hope you do get your Alex. I wanted one for ages and ages before Barney and Madge came along and when they did I was in heaven. You won't be sorry to have an Alex for a pet: they really are exceptional in every department.
