10 parakeets
Hi!
My name is Natalie and I grew up with parakeets and cockatiels. Now I'm 32, married and have 4 children. 3 boys and a girl. 15, 13, 8 & 4. I want them to fall in love with birds like I did/am.
My 8 year old son who is a lot like Sheldon off the big bang theory always said he didn't like birds till I brought 1 home (actually went to the store and picked up another the next day... lol) well, he comes up to me the first night and says he loves the bird and it's the only bird he likes. Then we go get the other who he helped pick out and now they are both his favorite. HAHA Love it!

I have a husky, mini daschund and a cat! Now I had dogs growing up too that eventually got used to the birds. I'm worried about my husky... My cat seems afraid of them. LOL

We got 2 parakeets a couple days ago from the store when we went in for some fish for my daughters fish tank. HAHA

Even though I grew up with them I thought I was pretty good at determining the sex till who I thought was a female bird for the longest time turned out to be a male and she... uh hmm.. I mean he (lol) would try and mate with my cockatiel. Even to the point where she'd lay eggs.

So now here I am with two new babies and I really want to name them and it's bugging me that i'm not 100% sure if they are male or female.
I know they have to at least be about 4-6 months old. One maybe older?

Is there anywhere I can post that maybe some can help me?

Nice to meet you all!! :)

Welcome to Natalie, her brood, and flock! Gorgeous images, thanks for a lovely introduction.

Please use caution with your dogs, cat, and birds. Husky's have a strong prey drive, and even the most docile can quickly surprise with dreadful results.

I am not familiar with coloring/markings of budgies, but other members may be of assistance!

Your children are about to be immersed with birds, hopefully they will share your love of avians!

Welcomed to the forum! I think your blue one is a boy, and the other is a girl ( not sure)
Feed those leafy greens and veggies to your Budgies!

Thanks all!

I was thinking that the blue one was a boy and the green a girl, too! Glad to think someone else does!

I put a couple cut up grapes in their earlier.. they don't seem to be a fan. lol Grapes are okay right? It really has been awhile since I've had a bird. Over 10 years... (Left home early...)

Definitely stocking up on some veggies when I go to the store for them. Maybe my picky kids will eat some too if I say they can feed them some veggies. HAHAHA

Parajey seem to really enjoy leafy greens, like soibay, romaine, arugula, broccoli, fresh corn on the cob. Grapes aren't that great, use blackberries, plums, fresh cherries, blueberries. But leafy lettaces seem the favorite. Offer in large shallow dishes,

This is a common mistake - most parrots can eat broccoli and plums but budgies shouldn't. Grapes are ok, I don't know what is the situation in other countries but here grapes have the biggest quantity of chemicals of all fruits so because of it many people say to not give grapes from the shops but just own ones. But as I mentioned I don't know about the situation in US.

I'm glad you are here. This is a great place for parakeet people. I don't have one but I love reading about them and learning about them. Great little guys!
Here is a link to one of our "parakeet whisperers" which people here sometimes recommend.
