Hello. I am new to the bird world. I have a 16wk old green cheek conure. I have lots of questions and welcome any advice. :blue2: I have read that the little guys are a bit nippy (this is a understatement). So far Gizmo is not as interested in toys as he is in nipping my hands. I have started teaching step up (still only when he wants) and to turn around (which he is very good at) I need to find small treats for rewards. So far the best is micro pieces of apple which still takes a lonnnnnng time to eat. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum. What exactly would you like to know? You should try nutri-berries, most birds love those.

Welcome. Training treats should be very small, and quick to eat. Try a piece of a Cheerio, a hulled sunflower seed, half a pine nut, a millet seed or two, or small piece of anything you know he likes. And, yes, the little guys can be nippy! My baby Parrotlet will fly across the room, just to nip our fingers or toes. I'm hoping he'll grow out of that.

when he nips try using a time out - it works really well with my green cheek conure as he is very much a people bird
time out is baisicaly straight after he bites you , you quickly set him on the floor for 1 or 2 mins and ignore him then you can pick him up again and carry on with what ever you are doing
hope this helps

Conures love to shred so that is why they use the beak so much. I suggest lots of shredding material/toys and to learn what his non verbal signals for a bite are such as raising feathers on the head. That way you may avoid a bite. They are really fun birds and are very quick to potty train.
