Hi,
I'm Beth. I live on a ranch in Northern California. Our children are almost all grown and since I've got more me time, I finally got "my" pet. I've always wanted a parrot because of their social skills. I did research, narrowed down the species and decided on an African Grey. We get our pets (cats and dogs) from the rescue. I feel like there are great animals out there but maybe a bit misunderstood. When I went to the rescue , there was a little green cheek conure that wouldn't stop flying to me and she didn't have any CAGs. So guess what I came home with? I'm in love with the little GCC. I just had it DNA'd so it'll be Telly or Tillie depending on the results. About 2 months later, I messaged the rescue to let her know that I was still looking for a Grey. She had just gotten one in. It was with it's original owner who could no longer care for it. Now I have a GCC and a CAG. The CAG is named Jasper but we don't know if it's male or female. I'm leaning toward female because it's red tail feather have grey on them. When it's more comfortable, I'll have it DNA'd. Right now, it won't let me touch it. I would love to be able to handle it but if all I can do is let it in and out of the cage, I'd accept it. I have my little snugglebug Telly/Tillie. I'm starting to think we should have named it Boss Hog. He's a bossy little thing and I can't eat anything around him without him trying to get at it.

I love reading the posts and knowing that there are so many people out there to help and vent to. People who understand that birds can be snuggly and funny and great pets too.

Welcome to the forums, Beth! So nice to have yet another member committed to rescue!

The notion of having the bird "choose" you is powerful and relevant with your GCC. CAGs are quite different and inherently extremely cautions. With love and understanding you may have closer handling - or not. Neither of my two hand-fed Timnehs ever enjoyed physical contact. You'll find some warm stories of cuddly Greys in our community!
