Hey, all. New to the forums, as well as GCC's, though I have owned 'tiels, canaries and budgies in the past.

A family member recently picked up a pair of GCC's. They have not been sexed, and the previous owner couldn't really come up with an age.
I've spent some time with these guys to get a feel for where they're at; obviously they're still getting used to being in a new home but, FWIW...

The one on the right in the attached picture seems to be a little bolder; he/she will follow me around the cage and take food out of my hand without hesitation.

The one on the left is very skittish; for the most part, will not take food out of my hand. Usually moves off to the opposite side of the cage, though will eventually come in to take a bite (of the food, not me:p).

They haven't yet been handled out of the cage. Going to give them a bit more time, as they freak out quite a bit.
They are currently still in the cage that they came in (from the previous owner). Tried to see if they'd venture into their new cage by putting the doors face-to-face, but no luck yet. As I said before, I'll give them some more time to adjust.

One thing that concerns me, though, is the condition of their feathers in the mantle/scapular areas. Not really sure if it's a cause for concern, so I'm posting to hopefully get some insight.

Anyway, sorry for babbling. Thanks for taking the time to read though it.

Joe

Beautiful little GCCs! looks like they've got some pinnies on their faces too. Flighted?

Welcome to the forums!! Perhaps one of the more experienced members can tell you more about the feather question! I have a black cap and she's my first bird so I'm on the same page! I made a conure magazine a few months ago, if you'd like a copy, shoot me your email and i'll send you a copy!

again, WELCOME ^^

Is that a round cage they are in? Just a little info round cages are not very good for parrots. I would suggest getting them into a different one.

They are flighted, yes.

Abzeez, they are in a round cage atm (that came with the pair), though they do have a 'proper' cage, as mentioned in my first post. Just trying to give them some time to adjust to their new surroundings as they go completely bananas when someone attempts to get them out.
Not sure what the history is with the pair, so I don't really want to stress them out by forcefully handling them.

Thanks for the replies, though. Much appreciated.

YES! haha I'm still learning about birds, I correctly identified flight feathers! haha sorry if it seems like a trivial thing but I get so excited when I guess something right :D

I'm sure the birdies will settle in nicely and feel right at home in their new cage once they discover it :)

Welcome! Beautiful green cheeks you have there! What are their names? It does look like they're molting from what I can see in the picture.

Maybe after you put the cage doors together you can put some food in the new cage and take the food out of the old cage. Show them so they see it and give them a few hours to see if they go for it. :) Good luck with the little fellas.

Welcome! Beautiful little guys. GCC are so curious and spunky that I'm sure with time and patience they will come around. My GCC is highly motivated by almonds so if you would like a treat that makes them bonkers (and might get them to come close or move into the other cage) that would be what I would recommend. We just break our almonds into little tiny bits so that he doesn't have too much in one day and so that we can train for a specific behavior/trick more than a few times if needed. :)

Hi! Welcome to the forum! Im fairly new to the bird world also, and have found this forum very helpful! Your new lil fids look great! I hope they adjust soon as Im sure they will. It does look, as others have mentioned, that they have some new feathers coming in on their lil faces, my lil guy LOVES for me to scratch off the itchy covers for him, but obviously your not in a position to do that. Also they have eachother to help with the preening! They really do look great! Again welcome and I hope all goes smoothly and swiftly for all of you in your transition!
