Snagged a ride on the last scheduled United domestic flight of a 747, July 31 2017. Was a marathon day, first flying San Diego-Chicago to be in position for the Chicago-San Francisco flight. Got in a bit late, took the last San Francisco-San Diego flight that evening. Four and a half hours of boisterous fun, exploring every nook and cranny. Nothing except the cockpit was off limits, no seat-class division, folks were milling around the first and business class sections, including the upper deck. Flight attendants gave tours of the crew-rest facility, located at the extreme upper-aft section of the cabin, accessed by a vertical ladder.
This was only my second flight on a 747! The first was at the other end of the spectrum, in 1972 when the design was young. TWA from JFK to Las Vegas.
