Hey everyone, so I'm new to the forum. I found my way here after doing some long searching and not really finding the answers/help I need.

I'll try to make this thread short so I can hopefully get some help and not bore you all.

I've had my Amazon for quite a while now, about 9 years-I bought him as just a baby. But recently i've been pretty concerned about him. Whenever he has droppings, he seems to be imediately bothered by it right after. He screams and flocks like it bothers him. This only lasts for a bit, until the next time he goes again. I've taken him to the vet and they found nothing abnormal. The vet said he might be dehydrated but nothing has changed and its been a few months now. The vet gave him some medicine to try and make it easier for him to digest food but that didnt help. I've tried putting minerals/vitamins in his water/food but it hasnt worked either.

Have any of you experienced this with your Amazon or know a solution. It really worries me when I see him flocking because I feel like hes in pain, but I cant find anything that will help him.

I would appreciate any help!!!!!!:(

If the vet said that there doesn't look like anything is wrong then I'm unsure about this was it an avian vet you took him to or a regular vet?

it was an avian vet. She did say that she couldnt find anything abnormal but its been months and my amazon still shows the same symtoms with no sign of improvement.

This has actually happened before, but a trip to the vet help last time and this time it didnt help nor has time. I hate hearing my bird sound like hes in pain.

no expert by far, but sure sounds like a diet issue

I was just thinking it could be something to do with the diet as well what are you feeding him on at the minute a good pellet mix and daily fruit and veg should resolve this problem if not I surgest taking him back to the avian vet as it maybe a internal problem the vet missed last time

Yea, be really helpful to know his diet he's been on

Could you describe what flocking means? Does flocking mean screaming? Straining? Jumping away from the poop??? I'm just not understanding. Do the droppings themselves look normal? Some birds can get papilloma growths around or inside their vent. I'd investigate getting a second opinion from a different vet. Do you ever see him getting a stained or dirty vent? Ever find any blood in his droppings? Do you have a gram scale to weigh him everyday? Every bird owner should have a digital gram scale. If he's been dropping weight and you know this because the number on the scale keeps going down, then I'd be real worried. Remember, most people cannot just tell by looking or feeling if a bird is loosing weight until its lost a LOT of weight, so you can't tell what his weight is doing unelss you weigh him. If his weight is same as its always been and you know this because you've been weighing him for years, then I'd be slightly less concerned, but I'd probably still want a second opinion from a different vet. If you didn't get X-rays done the first time, it might be good to go the full check up and blood work with X-rays route the next time you vet him. What was the name of the medicine the other vet gave you? The might provide hint about what he or she was thinking as a possible diagnosis.

I'm just wondering if he might be constipated... What do you feed him???

If you are wanting our help we need to know what pellet mix you have him on without information we can not help you with this problem please let us know soon

Like the above posters asked, what is he eating?

Also, I would seek a second opinion!

A big warm welcome to our awesome forum

If after so long, and "sick" symptoms are still showing I would definitely go for a second opinion.

Have you seen his vent? Does it look red, puffy, sort of pebbly looking? Also when responding please include his diet, video of the "flocking",and a picture of his poop on a piece of white paper. YES get a second opinion from another AV.
