Hello, I am so happy to have found this active informative forum.
My being here is bittersweet. Sadly our incredible Quaker, Brain, passed away in May. We adopted him 16 yrs ago, from another family and he was nothing but joy and laughter. His passing was devastating. We have had other rescues over the years...lovebirds, a cockatiel, a budgie, a nanday....loved and miss them all, but Brain was my soulmate, his passing left a huge hole in our busy home.
I was unsure if I wanted to add a new bird to our home, or if he would be the last. The house was so quiet, no little bird laughing, no one saying hello goodbye, no one pulling my hair saying ouch and bursting into laughter. No one watching movies, singing along and screaming at the scary parts. We went to our local parrot store to interact and meet some ringnecks, as people were steering me towards them. We had intentions of adopting again, but wanted to meet a few different birds and see if my heart was able to take another.
Long story going on way too long, I played with many, we left unsure . Went back a second time and replayed with a few and then saw a little 4 month old Senegal. Not sure why i didn't pick him up the first day, but did the second. There was an instant bond, he snuggled up to my face and settled right in. I have no idea how it all happened, but he came home that day and from minute one acted as if he had been there all along. I knew nothing about them, but knew he was mine. He is a delight. Steps up, eats everything, let's me play with his toes and wings, will lay in my hand on his back and is rock solid with people and dogs, cats. To my surprise he is chattering away in baby talk, saying hello and working on who knows what.
I feel guilt about purchasing, but something's are meant to be. I know there will be more rescues in our future, but for the moment Baxter Bird is exactly what my heart needed.
Sorry to babble so long. I love this forum and look forward to learning so much here.
