My husband and I have been owned by quite a few different 2 and 4 legged friends over the years.
We are in Wisconsin and raise and show miniature horses along with a few different of the "usual" animals.

We have become very interested in adding a feathered friend to our family and I have been spending a lot of time here and on other forums reading and trying to learn all I can, the last couple of months.
We have a definite interest in Conures, and are going forward to learn more, hence my registration here so I may learn, learn, learn.

I am fascinated by these birds though have only ever "owned" a parakeet once which was brought home for my youngest son when he was ten. Though he is waaaay grown now, I remember how well bonded the two became and how much he enjoyed that little bird.
And that little bird enjoyed HIM.
Sure made "homework" easier with his litte "buddy" on the desk while he worked.

We are looking forward to any guidance from everyone here as we move forward.

Thanks
Noel and Anne

Thank you!
Totally fascinated with birds since I was able to rescue a Great Horned Owl who got himself stuck in a fence about 8 years ago. A truly amazing wild bird who relaxed into me and let me work him loose, (he had hs head totally stuck through a fence with 2 X 4 openings.)

I still can't figure out why he would let me quietly hold him while we cut the fence carefully around his head to get him out of there. We then had him checked by a rescue org. and a vet and were able to release him back on our land.

It was quite a sight to set him free there again.

Welcome - any person who loves horses besides birds is an instant friend :) This forum is amazing and people are very kind and helpful. I own a lovebird so not too clued up on Conures but like Ant and Bobby said there are many conure owners who can give you advice etc.

I hope that you have popped your head in the Mugshot page in the off topic section and added some pics - we love pics :)

Welcome to the forums!!! I'm a new conure owner myself (a Green-cheek named Mishka) and am already totally smitten. :) I live in an apartment so got the much quieter GC but if you don't mind a little extra noise there's tons of different conure species to choose from. Did you have a particular breed in mind?

Welcome to the forum! :D

I have been in love with conure's for years and just got my sunny a couple of months ago.

She's amazing :)

I can vouch totally for these lil ones!

The people on this forum have been amazing with helping us with anything we encounter along the way - it's a great place to be.

Welcome to the forum... this is a great place with great people who are always will to listen and give knowledgeable advice.

Keep us posted on your decision and of course we all love pictures of all your animals..

Welcome! Pretty new here myself as well! Fabulous place, wonderful, informative friendly folks here!
I love all birds but my two conures will always have their special spots in my hearts forever! Good luck deciding (so hard sometimes) and good for you to research first!!

We still have quite a bit of learning to do but the conures really appeal to us.
Started out looking at the Green Cheeks and then was amazed by the Suns and their color.
We have a home and 10 acres with the horses so we don't have "apartment worries" with the noise.
So many Conures so much to learn!

The suns are absolutely beautiful! They were among the ones I was interested in (also not having to worry about the noise) and it seems just like every other bird they all have their own personalities and some are not as loud as others. You just never know.
What kind, and how many horses do you have?

The Suns are gorgeous, very vocal (make decent talkers too!) and from all I've read as playful as puppies. Green-cheeks are fiesty little things and are (generally) not as loud as the Suns can be. I think if I weren't living in an apartment I'd have gone with a Sun but I'm quite happy with my little Green-cheek. :D But yeah, there are TONS of Conures to choose from, with sizes ranging from 10" all the way up to 18"!

I'm glad you're doing your homework first, it'll pay off for you in the long run. :p

Jodi,
we raise and show and LOVE our miniature horses.
Particularly enjoy driving them and personally I love the process of training them to drive.

Sorry I do remember reading that! I guess I meant maybe we could see some*pictures*in the future lol! We dont have any mini horses at the barn but I know someone who breeds them and they are just beyond cuteness as babies!

If I may interject slightly and defend the sunnies...hahaha!

(oooh I love my girl!)

They have a bad rap for being really loud and don't get me wrong - they totally can be. It all varies from bird to bird as usual though and Cal has been taught not to shout and as a result only does occasionally thus far.

They are SO intelligent that I don't believe much is beyond them ;)
