Sun Conure - Manamana
My 14 week old male Sun Conure "Manamana" is my first bird. He is training me quite well. When he wants under his wings scratched, he raises both wings in the air for me to rub under there. I never knew that birds could purr! After suffering the past month with him chewing on my ears, I saw a video on YouTube with a great suggestion as to how to discipline. The next time he started chewing on my ear lobe, I took him off my shoulder, touched his beak and said "no". I then put him in his cage. Later on, on the same shoulder he didn't touch my ear! But, like a little kid he moved over to the right side and started chewing away. So I did what I did before. It's been 3 days now and he hasn't touched my ears. Next I'm going to try to get him to keep his beak out of my nose. My bird listens better than my kids ever did.

Is it normal for a conure to chatter away to itself and make all sorts of funny little sounds? What does this mean?

Great to have found this forum.

Hello and welcome! I have a sun conure as well and he is now 7 months old. I believe he was close to the same age as Manamana when I first got him. They are such smart and fun little birds! Try training him to do tricks! You'll probably be surprised at how quickly he learns! Lemon has started throwing all his toys off the top of his cage and they turns his head to the side while waiting. He has learned that this brings someone running to his cage to put the toys back! LOL. I know he does it on purpose because if he's in the process of tossing his toys and you start walking towards his cage, he will drop everything and run to the edge to meet you! As for chattering, usually Lemon chatters when he's really happy so I think it sounds like Manamana is happy!

Welcome to the forums! Sounds like you have one smart bird. :) I love the name. As soon as I read it, I was singing that Muppets song lol That chatter usually means a happy bird and also an inquisitive bird too. :)
