Hi all -
I'm new to the forum, and as a new conure parent I thought it would be a good idea to hang out and soak up some wisdom & encouragement.
My kids are in their 20s & all grown up, and after I stopped working in 2009 due to health problems, I decided I finally had the time & patience to devote to a bird. I got my first bird, a sweet 9 week old male cockatiel named Jax , last September, followed by a 1.5 year old female cockatiel (Kylie) about 6 weeks later. I have no plans to breed them, I was just looking for a tame, good-natured cockatiel as a companion to Jax. Turns out they can't stand each other, go figure. They're so loveable & quirky, sometimes they remind me of little people in feather suits. I love stroking their little "muttonchops" and crests, and they really love their head scritches. Jax has learned to whistle the Mahna Mahna song from Sesame Street, and has begun trying to talk...we think he is saying "Whatcha doin'?".
We've all loved having the cockatiels so much that I decided to add to my flock. After months long searching, I finally brought home a young sun conure last week, and my daughter, who lives at home, fell in love & purchased a young Quaker parrot, from the same store, a few days later. I'm sure I'll be hanging out here often & asking many questions!
