Hi Folks,

I have a new three month old Quaker. I'm concerned about him flying away as we have two dogs/two cats and leave the sliding glass door open on occasion. We will do what we can to prevent this scenario from happening and will be super careful, but does it make sense to get him banded? I also read that it may be possible to chip him. Thoughts? Thank you in advannce.

You should band him definitely for identification purposes in case he gets lost. And so you can find him. But chipping him I’m not sure that’s completely at your discretion I know some bird owners do that. When letting him out of the cage you should always supervise all your animals since birds are prey. And you never could know what happens so be careful and leave doors and windows closed as he’s out. Just to be safe. You could possibly get a mesh netting I think for the window. If that’s possible.

Hang a beaded curtain over the slider.
Start working on inside your home flight recall training.
Congratulations on your new one. Looking forward to hearing about him and pictures

You can have a Quaker microchipped and if it escaped or is stolen but gets scanned at a humane society, they will be able to trace your bird. Banda can be cut off. Microchips are probably more secure.

Both. As people who are honest will id with band. But there are a lot of dishonest ones

Hi Delrayman,
Is your new Quaker doing ok? I hope all is well in your busy household. Does he make any dog noises yet?
