Hi,

I'm (hopefully) getting a bird in January but have a few questions!

I'm looking at Eclectus & Senegal Parrots as well as Indian Ringnecks. My family are excited about the idea of me having a bird but I am concerned that I may be moving to London in August next year. I am hoping to take my bird with me, obviously, but am not sure which species copes well enough with being left alone during the day?

Also, if I were in time to get another parrot as company, which species does well with being integrated with another bird? And which gender?

Thanks! :green1:

There is no way to tell which species or bird will get along with one you have. Its a long process of introduction and possible integration but no guarantees

Getting one parrot to provide company with another parrot is a crap shoot and very much luck of the draw. I was able to do it but my first decision was to get the same breed of bird and introduce them very slowly and provide them both much love and affection. Still there is no guaranteeing it will work as you wish. As for taking a bird overseas, you need to do a lot of research. I'm sure someone here will chime in with some info!

How long is 'during the day' likely to be, i would not usually describe an eclectus as the ideal bird for that kind of situation (depending on the time, size of the cage, how much they play by themselves without wanting your input, and how much you make up for it in other hours), then again i would not say that was ideal for any parrot, but it always depends on so many more factors. :) [i have no experience with senegals or tame indian ring necks (only large aviary ones) so i cant compare...]
