Hi all,

I adopted my first parrot a month ago. Ozzy is a 7 year old blue front amazon. He has spent the past three years living in a pet store. The longer he lived at the store the meaner he got. I started talking to him a year ago and we became "friends" he has never bit me but he did bite all of the workers at the store. The poor guy did not have any toys until I bought him some while he was still there. Then I lost my job and decided to go back to school and made the decision to bring him home. I am home most of the time so it was a good time to bring him to a much better place to live. He has been doing great. He is very quiet, He is not biting my kids (17 and 19). He is getting good fresh foods (I have been reading parrot care books like crazy. He was mostly on seed at the store. He just loves all the food I offer him. He is enjoying playing with all his toys. His cage has a play gym on it and I also bought him a big stand alone play gym. When I am home He can get over to where I am and does so whenever he wants to (or always if I am eating anything). I also have three dogs (two mastiffs) and I do mastiff rescue. So far things are great with the dogs and ozzy. They are never in the same room if I am not there. If I am not home or with him he is in his cage. The dogs cannot get to his cage or playgym so that has been going well. Well thats all for now.

Sounds like Ozzy made a GREAT choice in adopting you! You do know that is what happened, right? ;) Honestly, it sounds like he's in a much better place and is with someone who has his interests at heart. Toys, fresh food, a play gym... He's probably thinking he's hit the jackpot!

Wow, this is the perfect ending to the story of how a bird picks their owner. I'm thrilled that you decided to bring Ozzy home. It's heart breaking to see animals sit in petshops for years like that and even if they slash the price, you know he ain't going anywhere.
